About Matt

My name is Matt Gemmell, and I’m an iOS (iPad, iPhone and iPod touch) and Mac OS X (Cocoa) developer and user experience/interface designer, based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

I’m particularly interested in touch-screen and multi-touch interfaces, and have created several designs, proof-of-concept implementations, notations, essays and articles in the field (most of which can be found on this site). I’m also interested in accessibility technologies and software systems, especially for visually impaired users.

You can hire me for your own projects via my site at Instinctive Code. I work with clients worldwide, from independent developers to Fortune 100 companies like Apple.

I’m a public speaker at technical conferences and workshops worldwide - you can find out more about that on my Speaking page - and I’ve written for, contributed to and been featured in various industry magazines. I’m a contributing editor (for developer-focused articles and tutorials) on Tap! magazine (@TapMagUK).

I’ve released many pieces of Cocoa and Cocoa Touch source code over the past few years, which have been used in literally hundreds of apps; feel free to have a browse through it.

You may want to have a look at my software applications Favorites for iPhone (speed-dial, messaging and email with style - $1.99), and Shady for Mac (dim your Mac’s screen more than Mac OS X allows, to soothe tired eyes - free and open source).

You can get in touch with me using any of the methods below. Note: If you’re interested in contacting me for business reasons (such as enquiring about my development services), please instead use the contact information on my business site.
