I’m a week late (oh well.) but last week was two years of doing Scotty Odyssey. It’s been a fun ride and I’m only getting started. Two years ago I didn’t know how long I would want to do this comic. After two years, I know I got a long long road with these two brats.

I got a lot of stories in line, and hoping to not only increase in post but with art and writing this next coming year. I also know, Scotty is something I’m always going to work on. I need to find some paying art work, but I wanna always but out less once a week.

Well let’s take a look at the last two years of Scotty and Jake.  Thanks again and love ya guys.

Movie Magic

So I’ve been turning to do more warm ups for my work day. It’s a time to loosen the muscles and to try new things. Things such as practice the human figure or color theory.  So what’s the easiest way to practice and learn from, I mean where does one look? One place to look is magazines and adds for figures. Fashion, Clothing and Nation Geographic are great ones. However another place I like to is, Movies.

Movie studios spend billions of dollars to create many, many pictures. They have a large teams of people to create movies. From the story and the look. A lot of time and experts go into each one. So why not study their hard work? As comic artist, you try to convey moods, setting, object and people. It’s something I have notice a lot of the greats do, the more you study the more you know and the better your art is. Now of course you should study from life and nature. However, I find movies stills are good way to start the day. I picked this up from Tony Shasteen. He does amazing mini prints from a lot of great movies.

The big question all artist start with is composition  How to do a good solid and simple composition  There is a film called “The Big Combo.” It’s a black and white film that is shot beautifully and planned to the tee. It has every shoot an artist might ever need. Black and white compositions for any artist is a key factor, so this film is a blessing. The whole thing is on youtube and here are some I have done.

Another thing I’ve been doing is movie stills. I found this site, which just have thousands of thousands of images form movies and television. With these I try to practice color, composition and the figure. I’ve been trying to do less line work in the backgrounds. Here are all ones I’ve done.

Before the Beginning

Hey guys,

How are you? Remember me? It’s been a minute. Been busy looking for work, improving my art and working on Scotty. I need to write some blogs, been kind of scared and have no idea what to write. So what should I write about things… things like The Big Blue Bruiser.

So this whole storyline just been a reason to do a giant monster fight. However, B.B.B. is one of the oldest character. Actually him and Doc are the oldest characters in Scotty. However is name was Theodore Odyssey… it was Richard Might. It was a suppose to be a 22 page mini. I have planned a ton of mini comics in the day. I never seem to finish them.

So I kind o took that story and made it for Scotty Odyssey. Here are the original pages and some sketches of the story. I hope you enjoy it and more in the future. Later kids.

New Things for Scotty

Hey Kids,

Hows it going? Alright over here, just something been pondering my mind lately. I’ve enjoyed doing Scotty but I feel like things have been going… not right. I’ve been talking to Brian Stelfreeze about how people do comics and webcomics these days. Which has gotten me thinking about things.

The problem with webcomics is… it’s got be short and sweet. People don’t wanna scroll through things and read. They want a short burst. No one likes to read a lot at once on the computer, it’s not easy nor enjoyable. So the problem is, how do I tell the best story and make it enjoyable?

Now my main problem is, I’m trying to do big action and storytelling. I want you on the each of your seat and excited to wait a whole another week… See my point? It’s hard to have an exciting story when there are so many stops. It’s like listening to one line of a song at a time. So I’m going to try something new with this comic. I’m going to only update when the scene is finished. So when I feel like a good chunk is done, I’ll update it. Might be a month or more.

Before I just dump you guys off. Couple things, first off I’m going to do the comic still once a week and hopefully a couple more. The other thing I’m going to update the blog more. So basically, same schedule but holding things back to do a big release. So let me know what you guys think? This might work, might not but I’m hoping to give a better reading experience. I want this to be one of the best comics I have read. Let me know what you think and your ideas over all. Thanks again guys.
