Get Stephen Notley’s new Bob the Angry Flower collection How to Operate a Chair and help him celebrate 20 years of drawing psychotic flowers, fetuses, Daleks, stumps, Gunts and all sorts of death-rays and robotic mayhem.

Not only does this book have some of the funniest, smartest and sci-fi geekiest cartoons I’ve ever read, but it also features amazing Bob pinups by me, Keith Knight, Mikhaela Reid, Shannon Wheeler, Ruben Bolling and a bunch of other top comic and video game creators.

I’m also doing some stuff for my friend, award-winning editorial cartoonist (and editor for Cartoon Movement) Matt Bors. In this case, “stuff” means laying flat color for cartoons like this, and this one here, and that one, and a bunch of others. Check them out!

This is the image from my sketchbook that has been at the top of this site (in cropped form) for awhile. If you’ve seen the cover of my book Deep Doodle and happened to see my other sketchbooks, then you know that I draw a lot of intricate pictures like this. I don’t know if it’s indicative of the clutter I deal with inside and outside of my head or part of my obsessive-compulsiveness tendencies, but I do know that I like to draw weird little things crammed together in a tight space. Maybe that’s why I moved to New York.

I’m posting it now because I’m about to upload a buttload of images that have:

a) been on the site before but have been lost or purged when I was hacked months ago

b) have never been seen before.

One of those images will replace the one at the top very soon. Finally.

I’m participating in the traveling library/world tour known as the Sketchbook Project that starts in the Brooklyn Art Library (April 14th-29th) and travels to 13 more cities around the country. That means you can go to a participating art space and see 30+ pages of my original art in a sketchbook. You can check it out and get your grubby fingerprints all over it. This is actually the first rolodex card I sketched on, but I couldn’t find it until recently. It makes me want to do a trading card series of CEOs. What kid wouldn’t want a card collection of chief executive officers?

African-American Classics: Graphic Classics Vol. #22 is out NOW.

Get it and check out pages 108 & 109 first. Then read the rest of the book, filled with adapted stories and poems by comic luminaries including Lance Tooks, Kyle Baker, Alex Simmons, and Shephard Hendrix. Let the awesomeness permeate your brainmeat for approximately 20 minutes after book reading is complete. Feel free to weep openly with joy, but try to keep your clothes on.

When your joy tears have dried and your pants are rebuckled, read Volume 22 again. WITH FERVOR! However this time pages 108 & 109 should be read last and in a booming theatrical voice with lots of hand gestures. Also it’s recommended that you orate it standing up and marching in a circle (or in the shape of your choosing).

Repeat the process, only this time read every third word in every third panel. Who knows? You might find a secret message hidden inside!

I’ll be at the Brooklyn Book Festival in about…um, half an hour from the time I finish this post. It’s in and around Borough Hall Plaza on Sunday 9/18 from 10am-6pm.

Aaaaaaaaand this weekend, September 10 & 11 in Bethesda, MD, I’ll be at the 2011 Small Press Expo peddling books with Jen Sorenson and hanging out with Keith Knight and other cartoonist pals.

Unfortunately my better half, Mikhaela Reid, can’t make it this year, so this will be my first convention without a buffer between my many neuroses and the public at large. Me nervous! Hope ya like sweaty handshakes and mumblecore!
