[edit] Gridlock-The Face of Boe

This article mentions the following quotes from the season 3 episode Gridlock.

" [The Face of Boe passes on his great secret:]

The Face of Boe: Everything has its time. You know that, old friend, better than most.
   Hame: The legend says more.
The Doctor: Don't, there's no need for that.
Hame: It says that the Face of Boe will speak his final secret to a traveller.
The Doctor: Yeah, but not yet; who needs secrets, eh?
The Face of Boe: I have seen so much, perhaps too much. I am the last of my kind, as you are the last of yours, Doctor.
The Doctor: That's why we have to survive, both of us. Don't go.
The Face of Boe: I must, but know this, Time Lord: You are not alone. [dies] "

The phrase "Time Lord: You are not alone" links to the season three episode Utopia, about another Time Lord called the Master. That is the problem I have with the section. Yes the Master is another Time Lord, but he isn't the only other Time Lord, don't forget that the Doctor's daughter is still alive. Also The Face of Boe just says that the Doctor isn't alone. Although implied that he is the not the last of his species, it could be referring to the family he has built on Earth. Rose and her family, Martha, Donna's family, Harriet Jones, Captain Jack, Sarah Jane Smith...

Remilo 19:32, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

  • Also, there are other "Time Lords" that Boe knows of. One being Donna. Another, the other 10. And then there is River Song...

[edit] Catchphrase

A catchphrase is a phrase or expression used often by a character(s). The Ninth Doctor's catchphrase was, "Fantastic!" and the Tenth Doctor's catchphrases are "Allons-y" and "Brilliant". The Eleventh Doctor says "Geronimo,". The Flesh Doctor also had one "Wowzer"

[edit] Ninth/Tenth/Eleventh Doctor quote pages

There is a separate page for Ninth Doctor quotes. To clarify which quotes go where, the Tenth Doctor first appears in the episode, "The Parting of the Ways". Since the Ninth Doctor appears in that episode, also, the episode's quotes appear on both the Ninth Doctor and Tenth Doctor pages. Quotes from episodes prior to this episode belong either on the Ninth Doctor page or one of the previous Doctors listed on the main Doctor Who page.

On another note, can we add Planet of the Dead quotes to the Tenth Doctor page? --The Silver Doe 03:49, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

OR we could add " Molto Bene!" he says that quite a lot, along with "Allons-y!"

Eleventh Doctor says "Geranimo" a lot and he also says "I wear a Fez now, Fezzes are cool."

[edit] Don't quote the whole script!

I just cleaned up a bit in the 'The Family Of Blood' part. I really appreciate fandom etc., but it is getting WAY out of hand. Looking at the page, you see almost the entire script of the episode, which cannot be possible anything else than a blatant copyright violation. I strongly suggest keeping the episode parts small and only quote the most remarkable statements (of which there still are a lot!) --Stupiddog 18:11, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removed quotes

I've removed some quotes and added a few more memorable ones - the length of the page is getting ridiculous - it's the fifteenth largest page, so I'll be heading onto doing the rest of Series 2 and 3. Will {talk) 15:23, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

I went for being bold and removed some quotes to trim down the S3 section, but they keep being added back in. Can we come to some agreement? (School IP- I'll log in when I'm home) 194.8.54.248 11:57, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

OK - no problem with that but such big removals that have "restored" quote as a summary will make anyone notice! --Herby talk thyme 12:02, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Good point, I meant I'd restored the quote mentioned by Will, but in retrospect that must have seemed a bit misleading. Oops! Youandtheguys 17:12, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
The 15kb removal of quotes is still a bit arbitrary. As I've said, one of the removed quotes, "The call came from across the stars, "Come to Utopia"." is quite important - the BBC even used it on their episode page. The quotes are supposed to be memorable, such as Donna's "Get me to the church" spiel or the Master's grits quote, which definitely are. Will {talk) 16:11, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
OK, so restore those quotes you feel need to be there, but to revert the whole edit is counterproductive, surely. I removed only what seemed pointless (How many times do characters get told to run? Doesn't really seem worth including, personally). And 'memorable' seems a bit subjective (I'd forgotten both the ones you mention). Youandtheguys 17:12, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Scottish in Tooth and Claw

What is 'hoots mon' exactly? Not being raised in Scotland (but being Scottish by descent), I'm a little out of the loop. 68.154.218.86 01:36, 17 July 2007 (UTC) James, ang.wikipedia.org

In context, It's the stereotypical Scottish phrase, like "och aye". Mirrored by Martha saying "Verily, forsooth, egads". I have no clue what it means either. Will {talk) 02:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Looked it up on Wikipedia, apparently it means "Hey". --86.137.7.119 17:12, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Hoots, according to the "The Scots Dialect Dictionary" compiled by Alexander Warrack, MA, ISBN 1-85079-189-9.
Hoot, Hoots, int. and excl. of doubt, contempt, irritation, dissatisfaction
 --v. to pooh-pooh, discredit, doubt.
Mon, n. man, a term of address.

Put the two together and you get a phrase expressing contempt for or annoyance with someone. That is based on the most educated guess I can put forth in my experience with the Scots dialect. I have not seen the episode but will endeavor to find and watch it so I can get a better feeling.

[edit] I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.

There is a few examples of "I'm sorry" where the Doctor doesn't say "I'm so sorry." In the second Age of Steel one he says "I'm sorry." In Love & Monsters he does the same. Also in the Runaway Bride. In Blink, he said "I'm sorry, I am very very sorry." So, discuss.

  • Related to this, I have removed an example from the episode "Dalek" because that was a Ninth Doctor episode, not a Tenth. 68.146.41.232 17:15, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help from those who own the DVDs?

I've fixed stuff up to the Shakespeare Code. Those with the DVDs of Season 2 can see the subtitles, so maybe you can help clear up the following?

  • School Reunion, "You wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone that you lo-" Does he really say "lo-" or does he stop at "you-"?

He stops at you, but with the beginnings of the word love on his lips. Its like: "to someone you-" (followed by the phonic of lowercase 'L')

  • School Reunion, swimming pool scene. The article said "a million widows" in one day. I think it's "a million witters", referring to the beating of wings. Problem is, it's quite possible I've made the word 'witter' up as I can't find it in any dictionary. Help?
  • The Satan Pit, Doctor about to drop into the abyss. "She'd know" or "She knows"?

Merci—This unsigned comment is by 213.231.126.7 (talk • contribs) .

I don't have the DVDs, but I can remember some stuff distinctly. (I've watched through the entire second season very recently)

    • School Reunion, he just says "someone (or somebody, can't remember) you...".
    • School Reunion, it's definitely "a million widows".
    • The Satan Pit, "she knows"

--Pharaoh Hound (talk) 13:59, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

  • School Reunion, "You wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone that you lo-" Does he really say "lo-". What he really says is this - "You wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone that you love.)

Thanks. I'll make the changes.

  • According to the script it was:

Rose Tyler: I've been to the year five million, but this, this is really seeing the future- you just leave us behind! Is that what you're going to do to me?

The Doctor: No. Not you.

Rose Tyler: But, Sarah Jane- you were that close to her once, and now... you never even mention her. Why not?

The Doctor: I don't age. I regenerate. But humans decay. You wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone you...

Rose Tyler: What, Doctor?

The Doctor: You can spend the rest of your life with me. But I can't spend the rest of mine with you. I have to live on, alone. That's the curse of the Timelords.

[edit] "Anyway..." and "Oh Yes!!"

Do these really count as catchphrases? Not only are they not exactly that common in the series, but they're also not uncommon in day to day life. Should they be included?

I'd say the same for "Don't do that" and "That's impossible". They're not really catchphrases.

If you ask ME, "That's impossible" Is common enough to be discounted, but the "Don't do that" he does say in a certain way, you know?

No, because he's only said it... what, 3 times?

Yeah. Will {talk)

I think "oh yes" is because he says it all the time, especially in the third series.

[edit] Catchphrases

No matter how many times you add it, "What? What?!? WHAT?!?!?", "That's Impossible", and "Don't do that (Don't)" are not catchphrases! Just because he's said it more than once doesn't mean it's a catchphrase. He does not say them in a distinct enough way to justify calling them catchphrases. 64.235.108.113 01:27, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Alright, to mister TenFan: I've changed the section you've added slightly, to what I hope will be a reasonable compromise. I'd rather we rise ourselves above the petty borderline flaming we've both been guilty of over the past week and a bit. If we've got anything more to say, let's say it here, alright? 72.140.64.135 15:54, 10 July 2008 (UTC) (I'm also 64.235.108.113, when I'm not on my home connection.)

WHAT, Don't and Oh yes are all catchphrase, as there so common in that special tone of voice he uses that there included in the drinking game.

Oh, right, silly me, I forgot that a game created with the sole intent of getting shit-faced is a reliable source. They are not catchphrases.Ahmahl Kotay 21:24, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

I agree about the "WELL" for catchphrases. He says it all the time. And the "What? What!" one, that come up a lot. But definitly the "WELL" ~OctoberHoliday

Well I think you can probably all agree that "allons-y" is his signature catch phrase. Just thought I'd mention that since people might actually want to know about his catchphrases, and the main one never even came up.

[edit] Copyright

I've cut down the Series II quotes in accordance with the copyright review tag, but I don't have the time at the moment to have a go at the rest of the article. If someone else hasn't gotten to it in a few days, I'll take a stab at it as well. Ahmahl Kotay 17:15, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

i would say his catchphrase is alons-y

I am Rachel A, an 11 year old girl who has been watching Doctor Who since she was 3, and hasn't stopped watching it since. If you want to use this for a project of something, you need to credit me and verify with me that you are using it. Thanks!

[edit] Correction

I'd edit, but it's protected. The link the episode "The Next Doctor" is incorrect; it should be [1].

Thanks. --72.177.97.222 21:59, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Ditto the above. Family of Blood, Latimer's quote: should be 'centre of time'- a British script wouldn't use an American spelling.

Small typo but I can't edit, in "Doomsday" the top of the fifth quotation has the direction: [The Doctor appears in from of Rose in a translucent form], it should read [The Doctor appears in *front* of Rose in a translucent form]. Bioman35353 (talk) 19:54, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Tea and Grits

Series 3 Episode 12 "The Sound of Drums" has a brilliant quote which should not be omitted. The Master says to the American president something like Would you like some tea? Or is that not American enough for you? No? How about some grits then? What are grits, anyway?. Great quote. 155.130.107.43 04:59, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] The Biggest Family on Earth

I'm quite bemused at the fact that Sarah Jane's parting words to the Doctor at the end of Journeys End aren't included: "You know, you act like such a lonely man, but look at you! You've got the biggest family on Earth!" - to me at least, it really summed up the story, that he's got whole worlds of people out there who love or loved him. I found it then further supported by Wilf's moving scene with him and "I'll look up at the sky and think of you". His family just keeps on growing and growing. I'd have added the quote myself but alas the page is protected.--Muddles 22:00, 21 April 2009 (UTC) ==

The Children in Need Special

I think that this quote should be added to the Children in Need Special section.

The Doctor: Then how can I remember this? The very first word I ever said to you. Trapped in that cellar. Surrounded by shop window dummies. Oh, such a long time ago. I took your hand. I said one word. Just one word. I said...run. Rose: ...Doctor? The Doctor: Hello!

It's the first moment Rose begins to come to terms with the fact that this man MAY be the Doctor. So it's an important one!

[edit] Chatchprases

[edit] Archaeologists

An imho great quote from Silence in the Library:

The Doctor: Oh you're not, are you? Tell me you're not archaeologists.
River Song: Got a problem with archaeologists?
The Doctor: I'm a time traveler. I point and laugh at archaeologists.
River Song: River Song, Archaeologist

[edit] Smith and Jones

I think that there are many good phrases in the episode "Smith and Jones"... Doctor: Got to shift the radiation into one part of my body (starts hopping on spot) its in my left shoe (wiggles left shoe) ah ah AH Hot! (jumps up and down, then puts shoe in bin) Martha:You're completely mad! Doctor:You're right. I'll look daft with one shoe on. (takes other shoe off) barefoot on the moon!

[edit] Norwegian

There is a spelling mistake in the following quote:

Rose: About fifty miles out of Bergen. It's called "Dålig Ulv Stranden".
The Doctor: "Dalek"?
Rose: "Dålig". It's Norwegian for bad. This translates as "Bad Wolf Bay". How long have we got?

The correct Norwegian spelling of the word is "Dårlig", and not "Dålig".

And the tachnical translation is "Bad Wolf Beach"

Unloggedin user, the correct translation is irrelevant. The show refers to it as Bad Wolf Bay, and therefore so must we

[edit] Images

Can we please get rid of the poorly thought out visual aids? They're ridiculous choices, and make the page look tacky and childish.

The Doctor Who pages have been edited by numerous fans, over many months, and apparently only one of these has on several occasions objected to the inclusions of images, which have been selected out of the limited options of those related to Doctor Who presently available at the Wikimedia commons. They might not be excellent pictures in many regards, but I do believe they are an improvement over a blank page. ~ Kalki (talk · contributions) 05:18, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

~~ So you're a twelve year old girl, then? -_-

—This unsigned comment is by 99.224.224.192 (talk • contribs) .
It should be of little concern or significance what age or gender I might be — I will confess to being someone inclined to perceive umbrage at insults to 12 year old girls or unjustified slighting of anyone else, especially by someone who has thus far seemed to exhibit less rational coherence and cohesion in some regards than I could at the age of 4. ~ Kalki (talk · contributions) 01:58, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

I believe it should be. As lets face it genders generaly have diffrent views. Some are Fem nite whores others act like guys. Some guys act like girls. So truely it does matter.

[edit] Voyage of the Damned - Correction

OK, so I've just watched voyage of the damned, and as I did think that one of the quotes here doesn't make much sense, right there in the beginning when he talks to the Host, I listened closely, and I'm pretty sure it's not:

The Doctor: Good! So, tell me then clum idiot, where are we from?

but:

The Doctor: Good! So, tell me then - 'cos I'm an idiot - where are we from?

(I'm not registered though, could someone else change that, maybe?)

A quote I think that should have been included:

"Any number that reduces to one when you take the sum of the square of it's digits and continue iterating until it yields 1 is a happy number. Any number that doesn't, isn't. A happy prime is a number that's both happy and prime, now TYPE IT IN! I dunno, talk about dumbing down. Don't they teach recreational mathematics any more?"

—This unsigned comment is by Ace (talk • contribs) .

sorry, i didn`t find a place for this quote, but i think it`s need. it`s the monologue from the doctor to martha from 3 series 9 eposide, i guess. this is the full the doctor's message to martha

The Doctor: (sitting in front of the camera) It's working. (taps the camera) Martha, before I change, here's a list of instructions for when I'm human. One, don't let me hurt anyone. We can't have that, but you know what humans are like. Two, don't worry about the TARDIS. I'll put it on emergency power so they can't detect it. Just let it hide away. Four... no... wait a minute, three... no getting involved in big historical events. Four, you. Don't let me abandon you. And five, very important, five. Don't let me eat pears. I *hate pears*. John Smith is a character I made up, but I won't know that. I'll think I *am* him and he might do something stupid like eat a pear. In three months I don't want to wake up from being human and taste that. And six, now I have to talk for around about a minute without hesitation, deviation, or whatever the other thing is, it's like that panel game on Channel 4 like Rory just pointed out. However, I'm going to move on and say number seven, and talk about my other favourite band, which is the House Martins. I don't know if anyone remembers the House Martins, but the best gig I ever went to was at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in about December, it must have been 1990, and the House Martins were playing, and it was quite simply the best gig I've ever been to. They split up quite soon afterwards, I don't know what that tells you about that particular event. I'm sitting in the TARDIS now, and I'm gonna wind up soon, but not before I make a few strange noises with my mouth, all goes something along the lines of, bingle bangle, dingle dangle, yickety doo, yickety dah, ping pong, lippy
