[act-ma] 12/14: Sr. CLARE CARTER/FOUNDATION MOVEMENT - "Peace Walk from Hiroshima to Tokyo"

Tue, 12/09/2008 - 16:47

THE COMMUNITY CHURCH OF BOSTON SUNDAY SPEAKERS FORUM presents... Sunday, December 14th, 2008 at 11:00am Sr. CLARE CARTER and the FOUNDATION MOVEMENT "The Three-Month Peace Walk from Hiroshima to Tokyo" Our guests today participated in a walk from February to May of 2008 in support of Article 9 in the Japanese Constitution, which renunciates war. The dramatic walk, originating at Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park, also preceded a global conference to abolish war held in Tokyo on May 4th. Sister Clare represented the New England Peace Pagoda, along with six members of its support community (including John & Carrie Schuchardt). The two men we know as the Foundation Movement did the entire walk as well. The Peace Pagoda newsletter described them thusly: "The hip-hop artists from Boston, Erok and Optimus, have amazed everyone--they walk all day and perform at night--rain or shine, wherever they are. They form a creative dynamic with the Japanese young people that is enlivening." Do come; this should be special! [act-ma] 12/18 Stopping War at the Point of Production

Mon, 12/08/2008 - 13:01

Thursday December 18th, 7-9:30pm "Stopping War at the Point of Production" A presentation on a a new participatory strategy to directly disrupt war and occupation At: encuentro 5 33 Harrison Ave., 5th Floor, Boston, MA, 02111 Featuring a presentation by Dave Strano, organizer, Disrupt! Lake City campaign ---- Frustrated with sign holding and marching in circles? Want to make a direct impact on the US war effort? The US led war in Iraq has been raging for nearly six years, wars of occupation for centuries before that. While the current US anti-war movement continues to utilize public vigils and aims at portraying the truth to those in power, we find one thing to remain clear: those in power have a concrete understanding of their role in a global military industrial complex. As people opposed to war, occupation and state sponsored terrorism, we understand the role that logistical support operations play in perpetuating the US war effort - at home and abroad. While counter-recruitment campaigns, port resistance actions, and physical attacks on military infrastructure have all targeted some of these logistical frameworks, the ammunition supply line has been fairly ignored. Hidden away in Northwest Missouri, the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant is one of the most integral mechanisms of the U.S. war machine. Producing over 90% of all small arms ammunition for the U.S. Military, Lake City is a linchpin in the U.S. war effort in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries. In March of 2009, opponents of war and militarism are planning for the first of what will become several targeted disruptions of Lake City's ability to maintain the war and occupation. Disrupt! Lake City is a grouping of anti-authoritarian and anti-war organizers working to end war and military occupation. Members of DLC will be touring the country during the winter of 2008 to build momentum for this campaign. Presenter and Disrupt! Lake City organizer Dave Strano has been actively organizing against war and occupation since the U.S. invasion of Kosovo in 1999. He has been an active organizer in counter-recruitment campaigns, and a involved with multiple shutdowns of military recruitment centers in the Lawrence and Kansas City area and other direct actions against the military-industrial complex. Currently, he focuses most of his time on organizing in white working class communities against war, militarism, racism, and white supremacy. _______________________________________________ act-ma mailing list act-ma@act-ma.org act-ma.org/mailman/listinfo/act-ma_act-ma.org To set options or unsubscribe act-ma.org/mailman/options/act-ma_act-ma.org
