Our approach to global health demonstrates the interconnectedness of public health across the globe. Infectious diseases like malaria, dengue, HIV, and influenzas impact communities everywhere and do not stop at the border or at customs. Similarly, chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes are of concern in both high- and low-income countries. Common determinants of health – physical activity, nutrition, sanitation, and violence – impact lifestyles in all types of communities and, in fact, the world is becoming more alike in these issues rather than demonstrating our differences.
