LHIMA’s Donation for AHIMA Foundation Silent Auction

spacer LHIMA’s Donation for AHIMA Foundation Silent Auction at National Convention was created and donated on behalf of LHIMA by Walter Riner, the LHIMA 2013 State Convention Project Manager.

The window is entitled “The Flame of Knowledge.” The stained glass window measures 19 inches wide by 24 inches tall and contains 56 hand cut and polished pieces of glass. The frame is stained seasoned oak. The window is assembled in the Tiffany copper foil method: each piece of glass is hand cut, shaped on a glass grinder, cleaned, wrapped in copper foil, assembled much like a jig saw puzzle, and then soldered. The window is carefully turned over and soldered on the reverse side. The window is meticulously cleaned and a patina is added to the solder lines on both sides of the window. The patina must then be neutralized, the window cleaned again and polished on both sides. The final step is the framing and of course a final buffing with a soft cloth. The window will look great hanging anywhere but will best be served with a direct east or west window to take full advantage of the prism effects of the beveled glass used in the window.
