2012 Festival Series & Special Programs

This year the festival features a number of dedicated programming clusters, where you can enjoy hours of literature and avoid the commute, from our classic Off the Richter Scale and Art of Writing series, to our new Words and Pictures afternoon stroll through San Francisco museums, and our expanded Berkeley Ramble events throughout downtown Berkeley. And… if you’re still hungry for more after the festival, sign up for one of the Bagels & Bloodies writing workshops.

  • Off the Richter Scale

    The annual Off the Richter Scale opens the festival with two earth-shaking day of writers and books at the Variety Preview Room in downtown San Francisco. Book sales and signings with live, uncaged authors follow each session. Free. No events
  • Words & Pictures

    Words and Pictures: A Cultural Stroll through Yerba Buena is an art-centric series on Sunday, Oct. 7. Wander with us through an array of museums and galleries, exploring art, language, culture, and all intersections between.Free entry to events at UC Berkeley Extension Art & Design Center. $10 Litquake Museum Pass (Buy Pass Online). allows entry to events at CJM, MoAD, Cartoon Art Museum, California Historical Society, and YBCA.

  • Berkeley Ramble

    Litquake’s new Berkeley Ramble runs throughout downtown Berkeley on Saturday, Oct. 13. Enjoy four hours of author events with Q&A session and book sales/signings. Sponsored by Berkeleyside. Free.

    Last year’s innovative Art of Writing series returns on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Z Space, as authors explore the art behind different forms of writing. Save 10% when you buy tickets to any two of the three panels.

  • Bagels & Bloodies

    Bagels & Bloodies “Hair of the Dog” Writing Workshops
    Sponsored by Grotto Classes, voted Best of the Bay by SF Magazine

    If eight days’ exposure to some of the world’s best fiction and nonfiction prose has inspired you to get started on some of your own, or if you’re itching to get a jump on your submission for next spring’s Lit Camp, hop out of bed Sunday morning after the Crawl and head over to the famed San Francisco Writers’ Grotto. Start with a round of bagels and schmear, wash it down with some strong coffee, then roll into one of four workshops. Followed by Bloody Marys and mingling!
