Following HTC's earlier HD2 announcement, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacture today held a press event in Taipei where HTC launched the HD2 globally. HTC's second Windows phone is quite unique in many aspects. First of all, it's the first Windows Mobile smartphone which features a capacitive touchscreen, so far known from the iPhones, Android or webOS smartphones only. Furthermore it's the first Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone which features HTC's new Sense UI, and upgrade to TouchFLO 3D, the company first introduced with the launch of the HTC Hero Android smartphone.

Early October, Acer finally announced its long-awaited first Android smartphone, the Acer Liquid. And beside being Acer's first Android smartphone, it's also the first Android device which runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform as well as featuring a yet unique WVGA touchscreen at 800x480 pixel. Running on Android 1.6 (aka Donut), the Acer Liquid is powered by a Qualcomm QSD 8250 Snapdragon CPU at 768 MHz and supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at either 900/1800/2100 MHz (European version) or 850/1900/2100 MHz (North American version). Also onboard are WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR as well as aGPS, a digital compass and a G-sensor as well as a light sensor.

Today, during its press event in Taiwan, HTC Corporation chief executive officer, Peter Chou, joined Microsoft Corp. chief executive officer, Steve Ballmer and Harvey Chang, chief executive officer of Taiwan Mobile to announce the availability of the highly anticipated HD2 in Europe and Taiwan. HTC and Microsoft also announced that the HD2 would be available in the United States with a major US carrier in early 2010. The HD2 is the first Windows phone with HTC Sense, a customer experience focused on putting people at the centre by making their phones work in a more simple, natural and personal way.

Today, in time with the public launch of its commercial HSPA+ network in Munich, Telefónica O2 Germany hosted a press event at its HQ in Munich. Here, O2 Germany demonstrated today's available development of HSPA+, together with Huawei, which builds O2 Germany's wireless core network and is also the vendor of the first available HSPA+ dongles.
During the press event, O2 Germany also unveiled that it will shut-down the national roaming with T-Mobile Germany, which provided for the past 10 years the coverage in areas where O2 wasn't present so far. However, in the past years, O2 Germany invested around 3.5 billion Euro into its infrastructure that the carrier plans to provide 90 % indoor / 99.9 % outdoor 2G and 63 - 70 % UMTS/HSPA coverage from January 2010.

As expected, Sony Ericsson today unveiled the Xperia X10 (previously known as the X3 or Rachel), Sony Ericsson first Android smartphone, which features Google Mobile apps, a massive 4.0" WVGA (480x854) scratch-resistant capacitive screen, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and a 8.1 megapixel camera! Building on Sony Ericsson's entertainment heritage and combining rich graphics with intelligence capabilities, the Xperia X10 introduces a new UX platform that will evolve across the product portfolio and expand over time continuously introducing new features and capabilities.
