The Belarusian Human Rights House in exile opened in Vilnius on 30 January 2007 as a result of joint efforts by human rights NGOs in Belarus and the Human Rights House Foundation.
Such member organizations of the Human Rights House Network as the Helsinki Foundation in Warsaw, the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, Norwegian PEN, and the Human Rights House Foundation had already cooperated with Belarusian organizations for several years prior to the opening of the HRH in Vilnius.
The house, called "an island of liberty" by Belarusian human rights defenders, assists them in their activities aimed at increased respect for and protection of human rights and democratic freedoms in the Republic of Belarus.
The house organises trainings and provides training space and facilities for human rights defenders, NGOs, journalists, students and teachers, as well as for international meetings and cultural events.
For more information about the House, see flyer.
