This platform is part of the SmartBay collaboration between IBM Research – Ireland, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, and the Marine Institute Ireland. It monitors conditions, marine life and pollution levels in and around Galway Bay, Ireland.
The IBM Research – Ireland lab was officially opened in October of 2011 and is the only IBM Smarter Cities Technology Centre. We conduct research in water, energy, transportation, city fabric, risk, exascale computing, and marine environments. The lab is comprised from top researchers from leading academic institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Cambridge University, the Australian National University, and Trinity College Dublin. The lab is also directed and managed by individuals with significant experience at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center.
IBM Research - Ireland conducts research in collaboration with top universities, cities, and industry partners. Our research focuses on advancing science and technology for intelligent urban and environmental systems, with a focus on creating analytics, optimizations, and systems for sustainable energy, urban water management, transportation, and the underlying city fabric that assimilates and shares data and models for these domains.
