Creative Care Lab of Waag Society empowers the healthcare field with knowledge about the creative and innovative use of modern media and ICT. The Creative Care Lab focuses on design issues for care.


Creative Learning Lab is a research and development laboratory that wants to stay in close connection with the perception of young people and the wishes of teachers.

Access to information is (in)valuable. Information, and knowledge, eventually builds on data. The Future Internet Lab researches developments in big and open data and that of content on super broadband. Main target is to make internet technology accessible in a way suitable for all its stakeholders.

The mission of the Open Design Lab of Waag Society is to empower people to make and understand products and processes, for more transparency.

The Urban Reality Lab researches how (social, sensor and mobile) network infrastructures and mobile devices can contribute to new ways in which we move through the city.

The Wetlab focuses on life sciences and the design and ethics of life. We want to involve the industry, artists and designers, but also the political forces and the public, hands-on in the shaping of biotechnology, as well as in what biotechnology creates.

Courses in digital fabrication "Learn how to make almost everything"

With the minor Open Design, Waag Society, Creative Commons Netherlands and WdKA introduce a new design platform for art and design education. 

PhDO fosters a hands-on approach of Creative Reserach in the Netherlands. It brings together (aspiring) researchers and practitioners within the Creative Sector who are dedicated to share their knowledge, questions and experiences.

Waag Academy is a unique training program that consists of short and long courses that combine content with the power of surprise, imagination and connection.

The Cinegrid Studio at the Waag in Amsterdam is a space for the production, transfer and viewing of 4K audiovisual material. CineGrid enables the production, distribution and screening of image and sound of unprecedented quality.

Creative Learning Lab has a number of educational and cultural services to offer. To inspire and to share the knowledge about the creative use of new technology in education are the core elements of these services for the Dutch education. Creative Learning Lab always tailors its services to the wishes and needs of education.

Fablab Amsterdam is located at the Waag in Amsterdam. Fablab Amsterdam is a fully equipped digital fabrication workshop which gives you the opportunity to develop and make prototypes for new product ideas. Alongside the equipment, the Fablab staff will help you by bringing expertise in from cad drawings to 3D modelling to fabrication principles to product.

Waag Society offers governments a simple and fast way to  create an Open Data portal based on the international standard CKAN standard. This Open Data portal is a catalog that enables the addition of information about data sources (metadata).

Waag Society develops technological products and services based on the real needs of users. We do so both tailer-made and for mass production. To get surprising and innovative results we use a large network of researchers, makers, artists and thinkers just as is required for the product involved.

In the centre of Nieuwmarkt square, in the historic heart of Amsterdam, stands De Waag, one of Amsterdam's oldest and most notable monuments. This 15th-century city gate is now a unique and inspiring events location. Waag Society, an institute for art, science and technology, is housed in The Waag and makes several spaces on the upper floors available for hire.

Culture Grid is an initiative of Waag Society to offer broadband internet services to cultural institutions. Culture Grid offers broadband solutions (optical fibre connection) and co-location.

One of the ambitions of Waag Society is to bring relevant technologies and concepts that have been developed to the market. This valorisation from prototype to product takes place in associated ventures (Ltd). A good example of this practice is the software platform 7scenes or our internet services company Culture Grid.
