Franz Ferdinand Gain New Drummer!
added 28 July 2005 at 14.54
Ahead of the release of their new record, Franz Ferdinand have confirmed that they have a new drummer.
Reports suggest this week that Ferdinand drummer Paul Thomson will return to the world of the axe (he was a frontman before joining FF) and will be sporadically playing guitar on tour for the band. Thomson has also apparently been flexing his multi-instrumental skils on the band's new album, the confusingly named ‘Franz Ferdinand’.
Thompson’s drum parts will be covered by drum tech Andy Knowles as required, who also plays with The Fiery Furnaces. A Franz 'source' is quoted as saying, "Paul's always wanted to be a guitarist and the boys decided they'd give him his chance now.
"Paul did all the drums on the new album but Andy's going to be the live man from now on. Andy is a really talented drummer, plus he's a mate, so the band have gained in every way."
Tracks mooted for definite inclusion on the record include 'Do You Want To?', 'The Fallen', 'Walk Away', 'The Outsiders', 'Evil And A Heathen', 'Turn It On' while other tracks such as 'You Can Have It So Much Better', 'The Fallen' and 'What You Meant' are also reported to be in the running.
Franz Ferdinand release their comeback single 'Do You Want To' on September 19, with their second self-titled album ('franz Ferdinand II', if you will) released on October 3.
