Yankee Dawg You Die by Philip Kan Gotanda
Starring George Takei (Mr. Sulu, Star Trek) and Greg Watanabe (18 Mighty Mountain Warriors) Directed by Philip Kan Gotanda Produced by the Asian American Theater Company and Contemporary Asian Theatre Scene
The Story:
Bradley Yamashita (Greg Watanabe) is one of the new breed of Asian American actors. Highly politiical and outspoken, he will only take on acting roles that are dignified and unstereotypic. He has recently starred in a small independent film and he arrives in Hollywood.
Vincent Chang (George Takei) is a survivor. He cut his teeth on the old "Chop Suey" circuit as a hoofer and went on to star in feature films, even garnering an Oscar nomination in the 1950s. Now Vincent is forced into taking often stereotypic and undignified roles.
This quick moving play follows the two men as they meet, form a friendship and together do battle admist the humorous and ruthless backdrop of the Hollywood film world.
