Other Lives and Indians played Bowery Ballroom (pics), play Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight

Call Other Lives folkestral. The band takes cues from expansive acts with sprawling live arrangements and Americana heartbeats, copping feels from everyone from Bon Iver to Sigur Rós in the process. It must be a labor of love to drag that symphony across the country. Contrast that to the spare opener Indians, which created vibrant atmospheres by burrowing into its harmonies and reverbs. The Copenhagen-based project is also sorta-folk, but expresses that aesthetic through waves of keyboards and quiet charm. Indians' melodic, hazy obliques achieved a scaled emotionalism that didn't aim for melodrama or total control, and primed the audience to get swept in by Other Lives' technicolor rumble. - [CMJ]
Oklahoma's Other Lives brought their tour to NYC this week playing two shows, the first of which was last night (11/28) at Bowery Ballroom with Danish act Indians opening. Both play again tonight (11/29), this time at Music Hall of Williamsburg which is not sold out.

More pictures from last night's Bowery Ballroom performance are below.

Hydra Head starts fundraiser to keep catalog in print ++ Aaron Turner lists his Top 10 2012 'albums or musical related events'

by Fred Pessaro // BBG

Aaron Turner w Old Man Gloom @ Europa, 5/8/12 (more by Fred Pessaro)

As announced some weeks back, Hydra Head has come to a difficult juncture in our existence and the future of the label is precarious... We've arrived at the conclusion that it is no longer possible for us to continue releasing new albums, but rather than shut the label down completely, we're hoping to be able to continue in a capacity that would allow us to preserve and perpetuate our catalog of works by the large cast of truly amazing and groundbreaking artists we've been lucky enough to work with over the years. In order to do this we're asking for help from anyone and everyone that would like to see the label continue and who is willing to support us in this effort. This is not however a request for charity - we would like to offer something in exchange for whatever level of funding our potential benefactors (that is you), are willing to bestow upon us.
Hydra Head is currently offering a plaethora of goods ranging from guitar heads to test presses to stickers to original artwork and everything in between as incentive to keep classic records by bands like BotchOxbowTorche, and many many others alive and in print. Head to the Hydra Head fundraiser page and pick up something, or you can just donate.

Meanwhile, Aaron Turner of Hydra Head / SIGE / Mamiffer / Old Man Gloom fame has dropped off his musings on music in 2012 in list form. Check that out below.

Rachel Fannan, formerly of Sleepy Sun and of her Birds Fled From Me project, has another project called Only You, which she just released the new single, "Applying Myself" b/w "Love Is Making Me Tired," via White Iris. The a-side, which you can watch the video for below, is a punchy tune that hearkens back to '60s pop rock and Rachel's voice is the right one for the task. If you like what you he
