TiE Dallas is on the move, attracting more and more members and holding more and more events in 2012.  TiE Dallas reached a new high when TiECon Dallas 2012 was held on October 6, 2012.  Appropriately, it was held high on the top floor of the beautiful La Cima Club, with a breathtaking view of downtown Dallas.  There were over 150 attendees, a strong turnout for a small TiE chapter, including Charter Members from Silicon Valley, Austin, Houston, UK, Hyderabad, and Coimbatore.

The event actually started on a Friday night, with an Appreciation Dinner sponsored by Merrill Lynch.  Attendees at this special event included Charter Members, sponsors, speakers, and all spouses.  It was an enjoyable evening for all.

On Saturday, the conference started late morning and ran into the night, culminating with a joint dinner event with the AT&T Oasis Group, celebrating a new partnership with TiE Dallas.  Daytime events included our own Ashok Rao, Chairman of TiE Global, who gave the opening address and set the tone for this exciting day.  Larry North, motivational speaker and entrepreneur, gave the afternoon keynote speech and burst of energy to carry the event forward.

The first panel was “The Big Revolution in Cloud and Mobile”, and was moderated by Gowri Shankar, Partner at Naya Ventures.  Panelists were Abhi Ingle, Vice President of Advanced Enterprise Mobility Solutions Group at AT&T Business Solutions, Dayakar Puskoor, Managing Director at Naya Ventures, Anil Solleti, Director of Strategic Initiatives in the Verizon Corporate Technology Organization, Chito Manansala, Director of Enterprise Mobile Development at Sabre Holdings, and Rao Machiraju, Co-Founder and CEO of ReQall Inc.

Next, our own Pratima Rao, President of TiE Dallas, conducted a fireside chat with Shama Kabani, President of The Marketing Zen Group about “The Future of Social Media”.  Our next panel discussion was “Capital Funding in an Age of Change”, moderated by Shri Iyer, Three Cities Research Inc. and President of TiE Houston.  Panelists included Venu Shamapant, Founding Partner of LiveOak Venture Partners, Josh Fleig, Director of Digital Media & Software at the Louisiana Economic Development, Ed Mello, Co-Founder of Cypress Growth Capital, and Jan Norton, Angel Investor.  The third and final panel of the day was “New Opportunities and Challenges in Healthcare”, moderated by Rao Telidevara.  Panelists were Dr. Ronald Hellstern, Principal at Hospital Practice Consultants, Dr. Dennis Stone, Chief Scientific Officer and Director at Remeditex Ventures, Mark VanDeCasteele, CFO at Aprima Medical, and Vance Nelson, President and CEO of Healthtec Software Inc.

Throughout the day, participants enjoyed the opportunity to visit a roomful of booths, sponsored by a variety of entrepreneurs and sponsors.  During the evening, AT&T management combined an awards banquet with an introduction to TiE Dallas, as members of both organizations mingled and got to know one another.  Our evening keynote speaker was Phil Romano, restaurateur, entrepreneur, medical device investor, and artist, who instructed the audience to “Stop Predicting the Future, Imagine It!”.
