Confidentiality Policy
I often use patient case studies in blog posts in an effort to restore a human face to modern medicine. A case report includes information about an individual's medical history and physical exam findings and is therefore subject to confidentiality guidelines. Patient case studies cited in Rural Doctoring may be based upon real patient stories but are modified significantly in order to protect patient confidentiality. These modifications are based on accepted HIPAA guidelines. Any similarity between a case reported in Rural Doctoring and a reader's personal medical history is purely coincidental.
