The Atom standard was accepted in the middle of 2005 and was used only on several dozen web-sites at that time. At the same time RSS 2.0 was widely spread on various social services. Atom 1.0 became more widespread by beginning of 2006. At that time it became a problem for aggregator programs, which couldn’t read the format dissimilar to RSS. Developers of aggregators started to patch their programs on the basis of bug reports. Atom became the main format for many major online-services by middle за 2006 thanks to active promotion from W3C and support of Google, IBM and several other corporations. At the same time popularity of RSS 2.0 didn’t drop as content-providers often offered news on two formats to choose from.
