RFC 4287

The current version of the Atom syndication format is IETF project, issued on August 11, 2005. It was approved as an offered standard in December 2005, as RFC 4287 protocol. It solves the same tasks as RSS, but was created later and took into account many of its shortcomings. The format is described in RFC 4287 and is now actively supported by Google in many of its projects. Currently majority of leading scientific centers are developing support of MIME application/atom+xml format.
