I focus heavily on usability and conversion when I design websites. I make design decisions based on the results of many hundreds of hours of 'real life' tests I conducted on my own network of websites (has over one million pageviews each month combined).
The two key factors of a successful website are: Traffic and Conversion
Traffic
Traffic is people visiting your website. This is the fuel of a website - the more you have, the better the website will work for your business. There are many different ways to get traffic to a website, SEO is one of them.
SEO is a way of getting your website to appear in front of the target audience when they are looking for your service or product in the search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.
All new websites I build will include full on-site SEO, which means your website will be fully optimised for the search engines and ready to attract new customers from day one.
Conversion
Conversion is something that people do after they have landed on your website. Depending on what business you are in, it could be making a purchase, filling out a quote form or calling your office number. How well your website can convert normal visitors into customers will depend heavily on the design and copy.
I constantly test different design and copy variations to find out what works and what doesn't. The results have helped me dramatically in getting websites to achieve higher conversion rates, more page views per visit and more return visits.
