I am mikeynerd

You know, it’s really kind of a pain in the ass to still have an online persona separate from my “real” self (“mikeynerd” and my Facebook are separate and I’ll never mention my blog or twitter on FB), but there’s just so damned much that I’ve blogged about in the past (nevermind all the PORN)… and it’s hard enough finding a job as it is; can you imagine if I had all that baggage too?

Black Friday

I hate the day after Thanksgiving, commonly known as Black Friday.

Hate it.

See, first of all, I actually LIKE Thanksgiving as a holiday. Spend time with family, have some turkey, etc. But looking around, can you even tell that it’s almost Thanksgiving? Hell no. All you hear about are all the Black Friday deals and sales. It’s becoming a bigger holiday than Thanksgiving, and it’s not even a “real” holiday!  It’s just sad.

The thing I hate worst is the way companies and advertisers TAUNT us consumers, just with the name. Black Friday. Basically, they’re saying “THIS is the day we make most of our money off you, so make sure to go out and spend, spend, SPEND! Ha haaaa, motherfuckers!” THEY’RE RUBBING IT IN.  And we obey them, like brainless sheep… to the point where, now, people camp out in front of Best Buy three days early so they can be first in line for the deals.  ”Oh, boy, let me CAMP OUT so I can be one of the first with the honor to shop at your store!”   It’s just sad.

Ah, consumerism… where makers of shit do their damnedest to convince people that luxuries are necessities, to their own detriment.

All that said, I’ll probably shop that day. But I’m NOT camping. I’ll go out later in the day, after everybody’s blown their shopping load… when I can actually ENJOY being out and about.

Criminal Minds brings a degree of realism you don’t see in most shows…

Hey, Freak!

One of the original reasons I started blogging is to just, get my thoughts out. You know, stuff you just want to tell SOMEONE. And then commenting happened, and then it started being about all “my readers.” Fine, we all went through that, and it’s fun to be popular… but I missed out on the original intent, which was to just put my thoughts out there. Now there’s Twitter and Facebook, and I use Twitter a lot, but sometimes, my thoughts can’t be compressed into just 140 characters. I use Facebook too, but less, because of the whole “family” thing. So, here I am, back again, blogging.

And if you’re curious, I’ll tell you why “hey, freak!” is the name of my blog. One: I actually say that all the time (not in a derogatory way). Two: everybody’s a bit of a freak.

My tagline was going to be “because everybody’s got their shit”, but then I realized I’m just a blogger, and don’t need a tagline (which is, in itself, ironic, because back in 2003, I won a web award for “best tagline” back when I was Electric Bugaloo:  Bloggies 2003). Because really, everybody DOES have their own shit. Everybody IS a little bit of a freak.

Me, I’m a hardcore Star Wars fan. I can pretty much quote the entire first movie (A New Hope), even though I haven’t seen it in ages. I also like Star Trek.  Most sci-fi geeks don’t like both, but there it is. Yeah, freaky. I also take little figurines and take pictures with them wherever I go. Also freaky. But then again, is it any more freaky than the woman with 6 cats? Or the guy who plays Fantasy Football? Or the woman who makes her husband lick her pickles before she eats them because, while she loves pickles, hates pickle juice? No. We’re all weird in some way.  Sadly, we’re taught that the weirdness is bad.  That it’s something to hide; to be ashamed of.  Really, we should be revelling in it.  The things we have in common with everyone else?  That’s boring.  That’s dull.

Weirdness = personality!  So… hey, freak!

Sometimes, I like people

One of my favorite things about the internet is that you can go post just the most inane random thoughts, and people you don’t even know will reply “I KNOW, RIGHT?”
