At Skeptics in the Pub we promote critical thinking and evidence-based reasoning in an informal setting - less technically, we are a thinking and drinking group.
The Skeptics movement started with the aim to teach the scientific consensus on a range of issues and try to prevent misunderstanding and abuse by pseudoscience and other interested parties.
We're not just limited to science; we try to look at any subject  - the humanities, philosophy, politics etc, and see where rational inquiry leads us, over what authority figures, common sense or received wisdom would tell us.

Join us if you agree, disagree or just fancy a drink and entertaining conversation.

We currently meet once a month, on the first Tuesday of the month at:

The Garden House
1 Pembroke Road
NR2 3HD

You'll find us up the stairs behind the bar. We ask for a small donation to cover speakers' expenses.

Prof. Martin Barker

What's the talk about?

Martin Barker, Professor in Film and Television Studies will be joining us for our first meeting of 2013.

Please note it will be slightly later in the month than usual.

Martin will present the problems and practices of studying audiences of a range of media from his career including 'the (honestly, awful) 1995 film of Judge Dredd', 'David Cronenberg’s Crash (which for a year the Daily Mail sought to have banned)', students’ responses to studying A Clockwork Orange, a 20-country study on The Lord of the Rings film adaptation and his new Hobbit media project.
