There are very few compact crossover SUVs that can achieve anything like the straight-line performance of the German made Ford Kuga. For that reason there have been very few compact SUV’s that have been as consistently popular over the last few years.

The five door Ford Kuga has an immediately striking, almost chunky high set outer styling that definitely stands out from the crowd. Under the hood is hiding a more than willing 2.5Litre Duratec five-cylinder turbo petrol engine which gives it some genuine grunt on the road, and on the road is where the Kuga really shines. With 147 kW at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque force of 320 Nm between 1600 and 4000 rpm under the hood. The Kuga can definitely move when it needs to, reaching 60mph in 8.5 seconds topping out at around 127 mph. It also manages to provide a very comfortable drive at the nicely economical rate of around 9.9 litres/100 km. We would highly recommend that you take your car for a regular car servicing in York in order to keep the vehicle performing at this economical rate.

The Kuga comes equipped with a 5 speed automatic transmission paired with a Haldex All Wheel Drive system, with transitions to AWL being oh so smooth. It hauls around a weight of 1613 kg’s, which makes it over 200 kg’s heavier than a Focus, and pumps out 244g/km CO2. While it might not be made for agility, it still handles quick changes in direction with ease.
The MacPherson struts at the front combined with the Ford Focus type control blade suspension at the back combine to make a car that rides as beautifully as it handles on all types of roads.

The C-Max is Fords hugely successful and stylish MPV. It’s success is no doubt helped by the fact that it is the best looking MPV on the market by far!

Being us, we’re not satisfied with simply leaving it there. As most blokes would, we’ve looked way beyond the beautiful exterior and taken a detailed reflection on the C-Maxs’ personality. And we like what we’ve seen. In fact, if this car were a woman, we would be taking it home to meet our parents at this point.

It handles like a Latin dancer. And by that we don’t mean it slaps you around the face when you try and talk to it in a bar (although to be fair, slamming your foot down in some of the larger engine models can quite often feel like a slap in the face). The C-Max is by now renowned for being one of the best performing and handling MPV’s available. With the chassis from one of the biggest selling cars of all time, the Ford Focus, the C-Max feels sturdy and planted in the corners, with the weight distribution giving it a good level of grip and purchase on the road.

You may also be surprised to hear that such a big car actually has an excellent fuel economy, with some models reaching as high as 60mpg. So it’s certainly cheap to run too (you can make your own jokes there). The C-Max is also available with Fords Ecoboost technology, which goes a long way towards making that 60mpg genuinely attainable. Unlike most eco-friendly cars however, the performance of the Ford has not been compromised in favour of economy, as the C-max retains an impressive 0-62 time of 9.4 seconds; embarrassing the SEAT and destroying the Citroen.

The C-Max has certainly upset the balance in the MPV world since its launch. If you’re looking for a reliable, sturdy MPV then you shouldn’t go far wrong with this suggestion from Ford. With starting prices of around £16,950 however, we would highly recommend checking out some Leeds used Fords to bring that initial purchase price down as much as possible.
