Radia is a network of international stations interested in new and interesting ways of making radio. Each week, one station makes a show for all the others. This week, from Radio Zero in Lisbon, Portgugal:

A series of letters that come from a far away place and time. The
narrator describes his research voyage on a planet with strange

free103point9 and AIR, Inc. named producers Laura Hadden and Tennessee Watson as their 2013 Live Interactive Residents, chosen from a competitive international field of candidates. The pair will spend this spring developing new media work at free103point9’s Wave Farm in upstate New York’s Hudson Valley. This marks the first time AIR has focused its residency on collaboration. The intent is to encourage promising makers to experiment with blending place-based media in new ways drawing on the digital and broadcast/transmission spectrum. Hadden and Watson were cited in 2011 by the International Documentary Challenge in the Best Film and Best Directing categories for a previous joint project, “Matthew 24:14.” They will spend ten weeks creating “Wage/Working,” a new, time-based media installation blending data related to income with stories contributed by local workers whose earnings span the spectrum. The collaborators have a diverse history working in documentary film and radio. For the last three years, Hadden has served as the media and communications manager for The Moth. Watson is a multimedia producer based in Brooklyn, NY. Prior to moving to NY, she spent four years at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University producing documentaries, instructing courses and coordinating Youth Noise Network, a radio project for teens in Durham, North Carolina.

Two episodes of “Radio, Radio” from Ubuweb. First, Jane Draycott & Elizabeth James have been collaborating on radio poetry projects for several years. Then, John Oswald’s 1989 CD Plunderphonics spawned a new category of music which samples not just pop songs, but their cultural contexts as well. Since then Oswald has refined his “electroquoting” on the CDs Greyfolded, Electrax, Discosphere, Plexure and the recently released Plunderphonics box set. In his Radio Radio program he talks about the legal machinations that have surrounded his work and plays a range of examples.

“Radius Sketchpad” is an ongoing monthly program on WGXC 90.7-FM presented by the Chicago-based platform, Radius. This month features Klaus Filip / Nicolaj Kirisits / et al.’s Cultural Morphing, originally produced for Radius, and is followed by a playlist of works selected by the artist. “Cultural Morphing” is an experiment in creating a multi-perspective image of reality from the simultaneous experience of a geographic line by the individual expression of a perceived personal reality.
