Dutch SF&F scene sees the end of a unique quarterly magazine

Pure Fantasy issue 28 True, the world did not end in 2012, but for the Dutch (language) SF&F scene it was nevertheless a bad year, a year with a sad ending. End of December the last issue of quarterly magazine Pure Fantasy appeared. Number 1 was published in April 2004. The first four issues were in magazine format, but as of issue 5 it was published as a real book, a paperback. Pure Fantasy published Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror stories. However it was never just a magazine, it served a special purpose: it was totally dedicated to beginning writers, to new talent. Founder...

New number of slovenian scifi fanzin Jashubeg en jered: News from Otherworld is published. Homepage of slovenian author’s society Stardust or slovenian Scifi& fantasy page. English version will be aviable at march or beginning of april 2013. We work on english page (Otherworld-sff.eu). It will be finished februar or march of 2013.

Free stories give a new meaning to the expression “A Dutch Treat”

For my first post on Europa SF I had the plan to sum up all available stories and books by authors originally writing in Dutch, that have been translated in English. I must confess that I could not find many titles. For some reason those who write in Dutch don’t seem to have a drive to publish in the lingua franca of SF and Fantasy. Once, when books were things you could hold in your hands, at least some of the SF and Fantasy books in Dutch were translated in English. But since the decline of the paper book, writers probably had other concerns than having their work translated...
