As you train, you can constantly close your eyes and recall this mental image. You use your mind's eye to go over every detail. To use visualization effectively, you must be relaxed. A good way to get into a total relaxation state is progressive re­laxation. Here's how;

1) Put on some relaxing music, then lie down.

2) Keep your arms at your sides with your palms facing up.

3) Breathe deeply, taking several sec­onds to exhale, saying to yourself, "Re­lax."

4) Start to tighten, then relax all your muscles, starting with your face.

5) Tighten your facial muscles as .in­tensely as you can for five seconds, then relax.  

6) Move down your body until you reach your feet.

7) Then just lie still and breathe qui­etly.

8) The next step is to visualize yourself being successful at some endeavor. It could be competing in a bodybuilding contest, but you must include every minute detail, from arriving at the contest to stepping onstage to pose. Picture your physique the way you want it to appear. Feel your muscles flex as you smoothly flow from pose to pose. Hear the roar as the crowd reacts to your efforts. Then see your hand upraised in victory.
