New song on C-jeff’s Preschtale Variations

Posted on January 8, 2013 by stemage

Hi! So one of the albums on my top 10 list for ’12 is C-jeff’s Preschtale album. Well C-jeff decided to have people “reinvent” the album, and pulled on some friends to create Preschtale Variations. I’ve got a track on there. Please check it out. It’s one of my favorite things to have worked on. And be SURE you also get C-jeff’s original Preschtale album. It’s a milestone.

Favorite albums of 2012

Posted on December 28, 2012 by stemage

Top 10 lists aren’t as fun to read as they are to make. 2012 was a little more difficult.

My machine is loaded with amazing music from 2012, but the shocking part is how much of it is from friends and acquaintances. You guys rung yourselves out this year. I feel blessed to know so many people that make better music than what is popular to the populous (also kinda sad). It was the best year for music in as long as I can remember, and I have this wack feeling that ’13 will be even better.

So I do this every year for myself, but I have to share. Maybe there’s something in here you guys don’t know? I hope so!

1. David Maxim Micic | Bilo 2.0
2. Life and Times | No One Loves You Like I Do
3. Town Portal | Chronopoly
4. subPixel | The Wave
5. Disasterpeace | FEZ Soundtrack
6. Cory Johnson | The Legend of Zelda
7. C-jeff | Preschtale
8. Enslaved | Riitiir
9. Pajjama | Starch
10. Glass Cloud | The Royal Thousand

Honorable Martians:
Cusses | Cusses
Torche | Harmonicraft
Fear of Dark | Motorway

Best discoveries that didn’t drop in ’12, but they did for ME:
Chris Merritt | Songs from Brokeland (it was here, good luck finding it, or tag me. I guess he’s broke. spacer )
From Exile | Monolith

Two videos that blew brains out:
Cusses – Worst Enemy
Life and Times – Day One

The “Discography” Page

Posted on December 6, 2012 by stemage

I haven’t been making music my entire life, but I have for most of it.

The music is all readily available online, but I haven’t created a single place to put all of my tunes. The end-of-year recaps are fun, but I realized there is a lot of stuff that isn’t on Bandcamp, iTunes, etc. So I decided to put it all in one place.

Discography

I spent a while on this, probably too long. It was fun looking down the list and checking for things I might have missed. I’m sort of anal when it comes to data and details, so it’s kind of a mess, but at least it’s all in once place. For any musician that has spread themselves across multiple projects online and off, I highly recommend this. It was rewarding, and it’s not done! spacer

3D Worldrunner, Mega Ran, and another epic collab

Posted on December 2, 2012 by stemage

I’ve always wanted to hear a rockin’ 3D Worldrunner cover, so I commissioned Amanda Lepre to do one as a part of Descendants of Erdrick‘s Kickstarter. It’s Uematsu pre-Final Fantasy, but no one ever gives it much attention (XOC and TSS did). She ended up bringing me in to do the rhythm section, which is of course an honor! spacer You can check it out on her bandcamp.

I lent some guitar to Mega Ran’s Language Arts Vol 3 – killer record. You can hear the track and full album here.

Finally, I just completed a song with the amazing Cory Johnson, who put out what is a contender for my favorite VGM album ever, Legend of Zelda. The collab will be on World 1-2′s 10th anniversary compilation. You can check out the details and artist list here. Can’t wait to release this one! It’s one of my favs, and it’s an arrangement I’ve always wanted to tackle.

Until next time!

New stuff to listen at

Posted on November 16, 2012 by stemage

Hi! It’s been a few months! Here’s a list of the latest musical goings on.

I finished a new song with the masterful Disasterpeace for the CHIPTUNES=WIN Expansion Pack release. Check it out – fun song! I’d love to do an EP with that guy. Here is the track.

For Halloween (my favorite holiday!), the regal VikingGuitar curated a Halloween compilation. I did a Goblin song (Tenebre theme) with Chunkstyle, Kevin from Metroid Metal, and Norrin_Radd. It was a blast! I haven’t mixed live drums in a while, and we ran the mix through a cassette deck for some authenticity. You can grab the album here.

I’m working on a new track with Alexander Brandon for an album he’s working on with Jameson Sutton. Alex posted a little preview video here.

I lent some guitar to Mikal Khill‘s new nerdcore Walking Dead EP. It’s killer. You can get that here.

There are other secret songs in the pot, just can’t talk about them yet. Some are game-related, some not – 6 tracks if I’m counting right. I CAN share that I lend some guitar on MegaRan’s new album, so that’s cool. That will be out soonlike.

More soon! Hit me up on Twitter/Facebook for more frequent updates.

I have a new song with ZEF on Peralandra Record’s new TIDE release. Check out the free album on Bandcamp. Yay for chip crossover!

Speaking of chip, I also have a song with Disasterpeace coming out on the new CHIPTUNES=WIN Expansion Pack release. It will be out Monday. spacer

ALSO, Here’s a little tease for Halloween.

More songs are DONE and waiting to be released, and more are in the works. Productivity!

The Latest Happenings!

Posted on August 2, 2012 by stemage

Yesterday, someone asked me what the hell was going on these days, and I rattled off the list. Turns out it’s quite a list! spacer I haven’t posted much on here in a while, so here’s a healthy list of THINGS IN ACTION:

  • finished a new song with Zef (OMG brilliant chiptune guy) that will be out in a few days on the Perelandra Records label.
  • finished a song WITH VOCALS for this year’s Songs For the Cure. If it doesn’t make the cut, I’ll just upload it for everyone. spacer
  • finished an arragement for C-jeff‘s Prechtale Variations album that will be out in a few weeks. It’s bonkers.
  • did some guitar for Mega Ran‘s 3rd album (last in the trilogy) out later this year.
  • did some guitar for nerdcore talent khill, member of The Thought Criminals, and Adam Warrock. It’s a Walking dead EP. The Thought Criminals is located right here in Charlotte! Not sure on release, but it’s happening!
  • OH YEAH AND NEW METROID METAL SONG BECAUSE IT’S THAT TIME AND I WILL ACTUALLY HAVE TIME. <3 Should be a neat one.
  • There are more things I’m not able to talk about – that are actually DONE or in process. But I will be able to talk about them soon. And then you’ll hear the music. And it will be great I think.

Someone also mentioned today that they’d like to see more video stuff, so I’ll try to get on that. If there’s anything you guys wanna see, let me know. Weird Zero Over Zero riffs seem to be a thing.

Thanks for the support y’all!

Guitar solo on Amanda Lepre’s new album

Posted on June 15, 2012 by stemage

Amanda Lepre is a rockin’ chick from Texas. She writes killer music and sings like a siren. She’s going places. I did a solo on her new release, “Beneath the Forest of Error”. You can nab the album from amandalepre.com/, and stream it on Bandcamp. spacer

Dude behind “For Catherine” (that movie I scored) is making a new film, LOVE LETTER

Posted on June 14, 2012 by stemage

I scored an indie film about 8 years ago. The brain behind For Catherine (said film) is making a new movie with a bunch of talented cats called LOVE LETTER. If you like your laughs with a side of blood and brilliance (those are all interchangeable), let’s help them get it made!!! I hope to fit a song in there somewhere. I will kill someone to make that happen.

LOVE LETTER – KICKSTARTER

Be sure to watch the Q&A.

Marble Madness album available!

Posted on June 2, 2012 by stemage

Where Good Marbles Go to Die is a seven song collection of arrangements from Marble Madness (NES) – each with a different guest. The original OST is full of variety, so I tried to capture that kneejerk change in feel from song to song on this album. The guests are a big part of that idea. Guests include Disasterpeace, Lauren from DoE, norg, XOC, Kirby Pufocia, housethegrate, and VikingGuitar – with the prolific FoxDragon on artwork duties.

Buy a print (size of your choice) of Nate’s artwork at Red Bubble.

The album is available now on Bandcamp digitally and on cassette – YES ON TAPE. I was inspired by subPixel, whose tape I’ve had playing in my kitchen for months. All these bands are making vinyls, why not tapes? I know more people with cassette players than record players – because I’m old.

Be sure to check “info” on each track in Bandcamp for details on the songs. Thanks for listening!!

NEXT project.
