Law of Attraction Carnival #26: LoA and Global Events

Welcome to the September 11th edition of the Law of Attraction Blog Carnival.

If you’re a particularly astute reader you will have noticed that this is a day late. No excuses, just life.

When I saw that this edition was scheduled to be published on 9/11 I thought it would be appropriate to focus on: the Law of Attraction and Global Events.

And I must admit to being just a bit disappointed that there is only one entry that addresses this topic directly.

Now I acknowledge that this is one of the most difficult places to go with the Law of Attraction. The events of September 11th, 2001, were, by any measure, “tragic.” And when you attempt to overlay the self-responsibility aspects of the Law of Attraction onto those events you quickly run into some prickly questions:

Did the passengers on the planes “attract” the hijackers?
Did everyone in those towers “attract” those planes?
Did the family members of those who died “attract” those losses?

These are obviously difficult questions to ask, and, I think, more difficult to answer. A wiser, or perhaps more cautious, person might choose to avoid these questions altogether. But I have rarely been accused of excessive caution when it comes to these matters.

But I also recognize that this carnival may not be the best venue for beginning that exploration and the conversation that is bound to follow.

So watch for an in-depth article on this topic – most likely it will be after I return from my birthday branding trip in LA next week – and then let’s get a conversation going to see if we can come up with some answers to these difficult questions.

And now, on to the carnival!

Featured Entry

Yes, there’s just one featured entry this time. And it’s from Zoe Routh at Law of Attraction for Inspired Living. Zoe is a relative newcomer on the Law of Attraction blogging scene, but she didn’t run from this challenge. And her entry, When bad things happen to good people, does a great job of exploring this topic. I love this little snippet from Zoe:

To say in LOA terms that it was because someone was thinking negatively, or was somehow intending the disaster is like saying a cake is made of flour. There are many more ingredients with complex interactions and reactions that go into creating a cake. Even more so for global occurrences.

Thanks Zoe for taking on this challenge!

And now onto the best of the rest.

You know, Ed, I missed the invite for this topic, and am not surprised. The one harsh email I’ve received from any reader came from an article I was asked to write for a local magazine after my hometown experienced 6 random shooting deaths in one of our malls. I was reluctant to share a perspective that I knew could upset those who don’t understand their creative power and thus responsibility.

It wasn’t a fun topic to write about, but it is an important question. Kudos to you for taking it on. And to Zoe for responding!

Here’s an excerpt from the article I wrote that somewhat relates to 9/11:

“Nothing just ‘happens’ to us, no matter how it seems the contrary. Random doesn’t exist. Everything takes place in response to what we vibrate – no exceptions. We can manifest the appearance of randomness if we choose, but we’re still creating it. Quantum physics is beginning to explain what ancient cultures and wise teachers taught us long ago: As within, so without. As you think, so shall it be.

Some find it hard to believe that innocent people killed two days before Valentine’s Day wasn’t purely random. Are we supposed to believe they each attracted that outcome; that they chose to be part of the crisis?

Although the possibility of sacred contracts, karma and destiny are potential arguments as to why this wasn’t a random event, it could also be said these participants weren’t ‘conscious’ to their role in what unfolded that evening. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t co-create it. Most of us aren’t creating consciously.

As we entertain thoughts that don’t feel good, we become an unknowing match to occurrences that also don’t feel good. So finding our way to better feeling thoughts liberates us from fear of repeat tragedies.”

Ed, I also like to look at 9/11 from a different perspective, and purposely don’t refer to it as the “tragedy.” From my spiritual perspective, death is an illusion anyway, so nothing can really ever truly be lost. (It sometimes takes me a while to really embrace that, but it sure feels better when I do.) Some good things came out of that September experience, and will continue to.

      Thanks for a thought-provoking post. : )

Great carnival, as usual, Edward. I’m sorry I was not able to contribute to this edition. The topic required a lot more time than I typically have for writing.

I am really looking forward to hosting the October 9th edition, and have just put up a post on my site about the theme. feelslikemagic.com/a-different-kind-of-law-of-attraction-carnival/

Even writing that post took me about 45 minutes, with all the interruptions from my kids. spacer I hope that there are a lot of featured posts then!

      Hi Ed!

Thank you for including my post in your carnival. Great carnival on LOA.

I am a firm believer that we get what we give all our attention. The Law of Polarity states that everything has an opposite and we can change something undesirable by focusing on its opposite.

      You’ve been Stumbled!

Edward, I just read Zoe’s article on 9-11. It was truly beautiful. I told her that I had passed on submitting an article on LOA and Global events because I didn’t feel that I could do it justice. Zoe beautifully states my thoughts on 9-11. I could not have done half the job that she did. Compassion that was offered across the planet was the gift to come from the events of 9-11. No one was apathetic about 9-11 or the school shootings or Oklahoma City bombing or the tsunamies or earthquakes that have occurred worldwide. Apathy is much worse than hate in my book. Much abuse happens when we become apathetic and don’t address the cause.

      Hi Ed and company

Thanks for your kind comments everyone. It was a tough subject, and I even watched the movie United 93 to see if I still felt the way I did when I wrote it. I did.

I agree with Jeannette too – taking responsibility for everything in our lives is a massively scary prospect, one that not everyone is ready for, or wants to take on. It is, however, a breakthrough when you can be ok with whatever happens in your life, whether you acknowledge you co-created it or not.

Peace is what we are really seeking, and there are many pathways to it. Finding it every day, in every moment, for me is the real gift of Law of Attraction philosophy and practice.

I look forward to reading more from the LOA blogging community – the distinctions make my understanding more profound every day!

I am so grateful for having found you spacer

No worries, Jeannette. If you post that article on your blog, I’d love to get a head’s up. Wouldn’t want to miss it!

Barb, I hear you. To do this topic justice, did indeed require some serious time and effort.

I’m really looking forward to your edition of the carnival. It’s such an incredible idea you’ve come up with!

You’re welcome Nancy. Thanks for the Stumble!
