The Writers Room provides writers with affordable workspace in New York City.  There are no restrictions on literary genre: novelists, screenwriters, playwrights, journalists, biographers, bloggers, poets and children’s book writers are all welcome.

Location: Astor Place & Broadway, at the crossroads of Soho, Noho, Union Square and the East & West Villages.  Easy walking distance to all subway lines.  Access 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.

The setting: The Writers Room is a large airy loft with panoramic views of the Empire State Building.

Picture this: you arrive, open the door, inhale the deep carpeted silence, choose a desk and work as long as you want in total quiet.  You’re free from the distractions of writing at home – the refrigerator raids, the television news addiction, the kids – all the things that keep you from being productive.  And you’re more focused than you’d be in a café filled with app developers, human resources recruiters, loud talkers, students and slackers.

Amenities: Free WiFi and Lexis Nexis.  Unlimited coffee, tea and pretzels in our kitchen/lounge.  A phone room with old school land lines for local calls and cell phone use. A locker for your old laptop.   So stop lugging around your computer and research materials: your back will thank you.

Affordable: The annual fee, pro-rated on a daily basis, is only $4.38 — approximately the cost of a double latte.

A creative community: The Writers Room is as social as you want it to be.  You can write in solitude the entire time or take a break and talk craft with other writers.  It’s your call.

Commitment phobic?  Don’t be.  While many members stay for the long-term, others use it for six months or a year, then leave upon the completion of a book or project.

Writers really produce here.  In 2011, members published thirty fiction and non-fiction books and many magazine articles, plays & screenplays.  Members have written close to 1,000 books since the doors of The Writers Room opened in 1978.
