The Collection and Processing of Personal Information 

 

Why we need this: 

 

CJNews.com collects subscriber information such as name and email address to activate delivery, send notifications and 

updates regarding the paper and its features. We may also collect billing information such as your credit card details and 

billing address where appropriate. The CJN may ask if you wish to receive information on other services, contests or news 

about the paper and its partners. You are always given the option to decline such offers or to unsubscribe to our online service. 

 

Cookies 

 

A cookie is a small text file sent to the user’s web browser from a website and is stored on the user’s computer hard drive. The 

cookie contains no identifying information about the user and cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to the user’s 

computer. 

 

# This data is used additionally to: manage the website, 

# save passwords and preferences, so the subscriber will not have to re-enter them on the next visit to the CJN’s website, 

# carry out research on our user’s demographics, browsing behaviour and interests, and improve our website services.

The CJN will not sell your personal details to any other organizations. Furthermore, all personal information is stored on

If at any time you decide you do not want to receive our subscription service, promotional e-mails about our latest offers or 

new services, please notify thecjn@gmail.com and your personal details will be removed from our database. 

 

Commenting Guidelines

  

Contest Rules 

 

(1) Agreement: These rules govern all contests advertised to readers of The Canadian Jewish News. Each entrant must 

review and will be subject to the contest rules. No purchase is necessary to enter the contest. The act of entering the contest 

constitutes acceptance of the contest rules. 

  

(2) Eligibility: Contests that appear in the Toronto and Montreal editions of The CJN are open to all resident of their 

respective provinces except for employees, contractors, carriers, distributors, immediate families of and anyone living with any 

employee, contractor, carrier or distributor of The CJN. Incomplete or illegible entries will not be accepted and will be 

disqualified. 

  

(3) Contest: The winning entries are randomly selected at The CJN office. The winners will be notified after the contest 

closes by telephone during regular business hours at the daytime number recorded on the entry. Odds of winning depend on the 

number of entries received. Only one entry per person per day! 

 

The CJN is not responsible for lost or misdirected, late or illeligible entries and no entries will be permitted after the Contest 

deadline (see "Contest Period"), no matter when they were sent or deposited. 

  

(4) Prizes: If the winner is unable to claim their prize in person, The CJN is not obligated to mail prizes and is not 

responsible for lost, late or unclaimed prizes. 

  

(5) Privacy: We will use personal contact information for purposes of the contest only, including contacting, announcing 

and promoting prize winners. Contests are run in compliance with The Canadian Jewish News’s privacy policy. 

  

(6) Declaration & Release: Prior to receiving the prize, winners will be required to sign for, release and indemnify The 

CJN from any liability in connection with the contest and/or the prize, including but not limited to damages or losses of any 

kind resulting from the contest, including but not limited to acceptance or use of the prize. 

  

(7) General: The CJN reserves the right in their sole discretion to cancel, suspend or modify the contest or the contest rules 

at any time without notice. All prizes must be accepted as awarded and are not convertible to cash. The CJN is not liable for 

any errors or negligence that may arise in connection with this contest or the prizes. 

  

The Canadian Jewish News is not responsible for the inability to process entries that may arise in connection with the contest, 

including failed, partial or garbled computer transmissions or for technical failures of any kind including, but not limited to, 

malfunctioning of any network, hardware or software, or human error. Proof of sending will not be proof of receipt by The 

CJN. 

  

Caution: Any attempt by an entrant to deliberately damage any website or other components or undermine the legitimate 

operation of the contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, The CJN reserves the 

right to seek damages from any such entrant to the fullest extent of the law. 

  

Failure to comply with contest rules may void the entrant’s rights to any prize.
