      About the Music Director

      Alan Gilbert, named to lead the Philharmonic's as of the start of the 2009-10 season, is among the youngest music directors in the orchestra's 168-year history, and the first who is a native New Yorker. Mr Gilbert succeeded Lorin Maazel, who served as music director from 2002.
