The built-in Apple apps dominate my home screen because they’re that good. I don’t use a lot of third-party apps frequently, so I hardly ever leave this page.

I’ve tried many third-party weather apps, but I keep going back to the speed and simplicity of Apple’s.

Since I need to test both versions of Instapaper, I keep both on my home screen. Instapaper is, by far, my most-used app. I know that sounds arrogant, but it’s simply because I made exactly the app that I wanted and needed for myself.

I love Tweetie (the icon does it for me), but I find myself using the desktop client more frequently. I should bump Birdhouse to the front page since, when I use it, I need fast access to it after getting a quick idea on the go.

Wikipanion is frequently useful for solving quick lunch-table debates or satisfying curiosities.

Google Reader’s web icon is on there, but only for sync-service unification until NetNewsWire 2.0 is ready, at which point it will take that spot back.

Sums is an app that I’m really excited about. It’s not available yet—I’ve been beta-testing it, and they gave me permission to talk about it here. It’s essentially an iPhone port of Soulver, my favorite calculator replacement. It should be ready in the App Store soon.
