The pzizz story

My interest in sleep began long ago, when I worked as a personal trainer. Watching some of my clients struggle with their fitness goals, I remembered when I was in the Royal Marines and napping was sometimes literally a lifesaver. So I began researching the different techniques of the top trainers and bodybuilders to see if it could help my clients. I was fascinated by Frank Zane’s diaries (Mr. Universe ’77 ’78 & ’79) where he talked about his technique of napping in the middle of his workouts. Frank documented his results and proved that he could train harder if he napped than if he didn’t.

Several years later, I worked with one of Britain’s top hypnotist and began learning about the human mind. I realized how important napping was and how it was becoming more and more relevant to a productive, healthy lifestyle. After trying to learn to nap efficiently, I discovered this required a lot of effort because I had to learn, practice and administer the techniques. I began looking at relaxation products and found some really good stuff. But I always found that I had to fit in the program’s time into my schedule, and I would quickly become bored of hearing exactly the same thing again and again. One day, when I was trying to cram a 25 minute relaxation program into the 15 minutes I had available, I thought, “Why can’t I have a relaxation system that fits in with MY lifestyle??”

And so the idea for pzizz was born.

But now I had to build it. My main desire was to have a relaxation system that could be set to run for a customized amount of time. I wanted it to be a complete soundtrack with an intro, middle and outro. And, most difficult of all, it needed to be different every time I listened to it so that I could use it again and again, and it would still have the same powerful effect.

And that was the easy part. We also had to figure out how to deliver it to people so they could use it. This was back in the old days before iTunes and iPods were invented, when everyone was worried about Y2K and the newest MP3 player on the market had a 32MB memory. Software was the obvious solution, but at the time, software was out of the question. It was simply too big for the technology at the time.

The first version of pzizz was actually run on hardware, and was launched in February 2002. And that early version, even with all its quirks, was used and loved by thousands of people. Over the next few years, as technology evolved, we continued improving pzizz, and after three of us locked ourselves in a room in Dubai for three months straight, we were able to launch the software product in 2005.

Thanks to the software, the number of people using pzizz has grown from a couple thousand to tens of thousands of people from over 70 countries around the world. And today, thanks to the feedback we’ve received from our customers, pzizz has evolved once again to become pzizz lite: an easy-to-use soundtrack version of the original software.

I believe in the power of naps and sleep, and I truly believe that pzizz is a fantastic friend to have on your computer to help you live your best life. I remain as passionate about the power of sleep as I have ever been. I have so many great ideas waiting…so keep an eye out for new and exciting innovations to come. In the meantime, kick back, relax, and enjoy your newfound ability to Sleep on Demand.

Cheers,
