When I Snap, Nothingness Bursts Into Flames

by Tracey

spacer from we heart it

I talk a lot about my feet and the burning. And, to be honest, it’s the worst pain I’ve ever felt. Even with pain meds, I’d rather get a cavity filled without Novocain instead of burn like this.

The thing I rarely mention are my hands. See, they burn, too. They don’t hurt in the same way my feet do, though. My feet feel like someone’s stabbing me with a steak knife while I’m on fire. My hands feel like I had a bare-handed snowball fight for an hour and am now thawing them out under hot water. Not pleasant, but preferable to burning.

Or, for the visual among you, this is my feet:

This is my hands:

So you can see there’s significantly less fire with the hands. Those are scientific photos, too.

Right, so all that is to tell you I’m not posting a real blog post today because my hands have been flaring on and off all day. To retaliate, I’m punishing them by not typing because that makes them flare worse. (It’s like a mini workout for the fingers.)

And you don’t have to tell me: It’s quite the inconvenient condition to have for a writer.

See back here tomorrow when I post something useful.

Sounds like its time to teach the Man shorthand and dictate all your writing. spacer

The burning sounds awful. I had some of that with my disc stuff and I will take classic pain anyday over burning, nervy, dipped in acid pain. Rest those hands.

Oh that’s a good idea! Though I don’t trust his spelling in the least.

I had no idea it was your hands too! I kind of want to cry for you a little right now. I really hope your doctor figures something out!

Thank you for your tears. I hear readers’ tears, when distilled, make great topical medicine. Or was that fairies’ tears. I need to stop watching random late-night TV.

Do you have prescription painkillers for when it gets really bad? Wishing you some sort of relief VERY soon! :/

I have general painkillers that I’m on that help all the time, but nothing that I take when the flares are going on. Harder stuff like percoset or codeine would be a good idea if I didn’t become cracked out on painkillers when I take them. Ha ha.

And by cracked out I mean loopy. Not, as my comment implied, addicted to them like crack. spacer

Awww. I hope you feel better soon. I love your posts. That sounded selfish. I’m sorry you’re hurting. Have you heard of Dragon Dictation? It’s a free iPhone app, you should play around with it. You might like it… I swear I’m not spam.

That doesn’t sound selfish at all. It makes me feel better. spacer

I tried Dragon Dictation but regardless of what I say, it types something like this: is a nord of This fish did.

Hey Trace, wish you were here, in the ice storm, I could give you a hug and type for you……one key at a time. Maybe it’s worse and therefore lyme? peace Trace.

Thanks. Who knows if this means it’s worse or what. This whole thing is almost impossible to figure out. I believe quantum physics is easier.

I wish you were here too. Then we could hang out. I have a Snuggie to keep me warm. And I have lots of witty things to say to attempt to keep your mind off your flaring limbs. spacer

Oh, just e-mail them to me in a list. I’ll read them as I flare. spacer

I’m sorry you have to go through this. I read things like this and appreciate my non-burning feet. I know we all have our own issues, and I’m sorry you have such a painful thing to deal with.

Hugs to you. Didn’t want to leave without leaving a comment. What I was saying the other day about you being strong is that you hang in there. Even if it’s depressing and even when it sucks. Being strong like that counts, too. Plus, you’re awesomely witty spacer Hope you’re getting closer to answers.
