About STC

The Society for Technical Communication advances the theory and practice of technical communication across all user abilities and all media. STC’s 8,000 members produce everything from traditional user manuals to the latest web-based interactive tutorials, all with the goal of conveying complex information in a way people can receive, understand, and use.

About Your Friendly Neighborhood Blogger

Your Friendly Neighborhood Blogger is the alter ego of STC Media Manager Kevin Cuddihy, one of the friendly and smiling staff members at the main STC offices in Fairfax, Virginia (referred to as Stately STC Manor in the blog). Kevin took over the blog from its originator, Tara Ebrahimi, in September 2009, and is constantly working to grow it into a valuable and entertaining publication for STC members and the technical communication field as a whole. A longtime writing/editing/PR/marketing/etc. guy, Kevin strives to put a little bit of all of that into STC’s Notebook. Please email Kevin with any ideas, questions, or comments you might have.

About the Rules

We want to host a constructive, civil discussion where people can discuss topics freely in an atmosphere of mutual respect. With that in mind, we request that you follow the below rules:

  1. Refrain from personal attacks and insults; focus your response on the argument, not the individual.
  2. Do not post any messages or materials that are illegal, libelous, or defamatory.
  3. Within reason, stick to the topic of the thread; please do not hijack or derail the conversation.
  4. Do not post commercial or promotional material.
  5. Encouraging or threatening violence against anyone will not be tolerated.
  6. If you don’t agree with these rules, don’t participate.

In an attempt to create an environment where all readers feel comfortable taking part in a productive dialogue, we reserve the right to remove any comments that violate the rules. Repeated violations of the rules may result in a ban of the offending party.
