UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Special Envoy Erik Solheim and a team of UNEP technical experts are meeting with representatives of the Government of Nigeria and other key partners in Abuja and Port Harcourt, Nigeria, this week to initiate the remediation of Ogoniland, UNEP has announced. The details of the remediation were outlined in the UNEP Environmental Assessment of Ogoniland, published in August 2011.

The Global Water Partnership (GWP), with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) DHI Centre for Water and Environment, and the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), has published a technical focus paper titled “The Role of Decision Support Systems (DSS) and Models in Integrated River Basin Management (IWRM).”

The African Development Bank (AfDB), through the African Water Facility (AWF), has approved a €1.1 million grant to the city of Sèmè-Podji, in Benin in order to implement efficient, sustainable and cost-effective solutions in the management of waste muds. the project is part of the public private partnership for the management of waste.

The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) are collaborating to train South Sudanese wildlife authorities on all aspects of professional park management. The programme aims to preserve wildlife and support rural livelihoods through three components: improving national park conservation; building government capacity; and sustainably financing of conservation efforts.

This meeting will be attended by young people, from the ages of 15-24, and convene under the theme of health and environment.

The 69th Regular Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 69) will convene at UN Headquarters on Tuesday, 16 September 2014.

The 70th Regular Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 70) will convene at UN Headquarters on Tuesday, 15 September 2015.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the first in a series of working papers on agroforestry. The guide, titled "Advancing Agroforestry on the Policy Agenda," is aimed at decision makers, NGOs and government agencies to promote the integration of agroforestry into national strategies.

The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD) released a report on REDD+ safeguards. The report, titled ‘Putting REDD+ Safeguards and Safeguard Information Systems Into Practice’ highlights policy considerations related to country level safeguard systems in line with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Cancun Agreement.
