Gorgeous Watercolor Paintings of the Serenity Crew Members

by Amy Ratcliffe on February 11, 2013

Artist James Hance is a crazy talented guy. We’ve featured tons of his work, and he’s always churning out new paintings and prints. What I especially enjoy about Hance’s creations is that it seems like he regularly changes methods and mediums to challenge himself. He recently completed a series of watercolor portraits of the entire crew of Serenity. Yes, the images will make Browncoats everywhere happy.

He’s donating the originals to Can’t Stop the Serenity for their annual auction to benefit Equality Now, and he’ll have sets of prints available on his site starting today.

Learn How To Write Your Name in Gallifreyan

by Amy Ratcliffe on February 11, 2013

spacer

Writing in the language of the Time Lords is not an easy feat. Not even the BBC has attempted to make a system that translates English to Gallifreyan or vice versa. However, a tenacious teen has taken on the challenge and worked out a guide that while still tricky is better than anything else we’ve got. You can follow his guide and build your name line by circle or you can choose the easier path (it doesn’t always lead to the Dark side) and use the translator on the same site.

Besides the fact that it’s just fun, think of all you could do once you have your name translated. Put it on handkerchiefs, pillowcases, get at tattoo – you get the idea.

Look Out, It’s a Moving And Grooving LEGO Catbus [Video]

by Amy Ratcliffe on February 11, 2013

My Neighbor Totoro is one of those shows that is riddled with adorable. From Totoro to the Catbus – it’s constant oohing and aahing and squee’ing. It turns out that Catbus is cute in any form – even when he’s made from Lego bricks. Tomoyuki Wakata built the blocky version of the animated character, and the best part is that it actually moves. The tail waves back and forth and everything!

Most Epic Battle Ever: Chuck Norris vs. King Leonidas [Video]

by Hazel Chua on February 11, 2013

Chuck Norris is indisputably one of the most bad-ass action stars in the history of Hollywood–in the history of mankind, even. But has he found a worthy opponent in Sparta’s legendary hero-king, King Leonidas? It’s Norris’s fists versus Leonidas’s sword (and signature yell) in this epic animated battle.

Who will emerge the victor? Check out the video after the break to find out. And stick around after that because the video features over an hour of awesome animated clips.

Hasbro Debuts Two Foot Tall Metroplex And Lots More Transformers Goodness

by Nicole Wakelin on February 11, 2013

spacer

No, that’s not a typo. This is a two foot tall Metroplex Transformer who made his debut at Toy Fair in New York City over the weekend. He’s officially the tallest Transformer ever, just beating out Fortress Maximus and he has two different modes. You can transform him into vehicle mode or city form as long as you can swing his $125 price tag. There will be lots of other incredible figures in the Transformers Generations line including Stealth Bomber Megatron, Bumblebee, Orion Pax and Trailcutter. Expect to see these figures in stores this Spring.

The Phonetic Alphabet Is Cooler With Superhero Names

by Amy Ratcliffe on February 11, 2013

American Airlines just got cooler. On a recent flight landing in Boston, Lawrence Wright encountered a flight attendant who used a memorable phonetic alphabet. He announced to the plane they would be arriving at gate B 11, as in Batman 11. Their luggage would be at carousel C, as in Captain America. I like this better than Bravo and Charlie.

The attendant, Mr. Owens, shared his entire code with Wright and I can only hope that more people adopt it. Check it out after the break.

Help The Rebel Scum Raise $11M For An X-Wing

by Nicole Wakelin on February 11, 2013

Once the Death Star kickstarter launched it was only a matter of time before the Rebels plotted something similar. It comes in the form of a kickstarter to build one X-Wing and train one pilot so they can blow up the Death Star. Their goal is to raise $11 million and they’ve even set stretch goals that will allow them to turn their one ship into a squadron and add on a YT-1300 freighter. Of course, this is all just a joke in response to the Death Star kickstarter, but I’m updating my resume and going heavy on my piloting skills, just in case.

The Star Trek: Into Darkness Kre-O building sets debuted at Toy Fair this weekend with ships and figures for multiple races that will be featured in the film. There’s nothing particularly spoilery in the images, but if you want to be completely surprised when the movie debuts on May 17th then you may want to save this post for later. There’s the USS Enterprise, a Klingon Bird-of-Prey, Spock’s Volcano Mission, Transporter Trouble, Space Dive, Kreon Figure Packs and Micro-Build Ships. All the sets will be available in May 2013 with the Kreon Figure Packs being released as a set of six in May with an additional 12 coming in the Fall.
