Where’s my Harper’s? (↑)

It normally takes the first issue of a new subscription six to eight weeks to arrive, and up to twelve weeks outside of the United States. If you’ve been waiting longer than that, please fill out our support form or contact customer service at PRScustserv@cdsfulfillment.com or 1-800-444-4653.

How do I change my mailing address? (↑)

Log in to your subscriber account. You’ll need one of:

• Your email address and password.
• The mailing address we have on file.
• Your subscription number (after “PRS” on your mailing label).

How do I access the Harper’s archive? (↑)

If you’ve provided us with an email address and password, you can log in using the box at the top left of any page on Harpers.org.

If you haven’t yet provided us with an email address and password, you can do so by logging in to your subscriber account using your mailing address or your subscriber number (after the letters PRS on your mailing label).

Why don’t my old username and password work? (↑)

Until October 2012, we maintained a separate user database for Harpers.org. We couldn’t transfer your old password because we had heavily encrypted it for security reasons. We apologize for the inconvenience, but guarantee you a smoother experience when you want to renew, update your subscription, or read articles on Harpers.org in the future.

Sign in to your subscriber account using your mailing address or your subscriber number (after the letters PRS on your mailing label).

I forgot my password. How do I recover it? (↑)

Create a new password by signing in to your account with your mailing address or subscriber number (after the letters PRS on your mailing label).

Why am I getting an “Email not Unique” error when I try to sign in? (↑)

This error occurs when you have an older subscription under the same address. Please email webmaster@harpers.org and let us know what email address is returning the error. We should be able to fix the problem within one business day; in the meantime, let us know if there’s a particular article you need and we’ll send you the PDF.

Why won’t your PDFs download? (↑)

If you’re clicking on the button and nothing is happening, chances are the problem relates to your browser’s handling of PDF files. Try right-clicking the button and selecting save as.

Do you offer a web-only / Kindle / Kindle Fire / iPad / Android / Nook / Kobo / Sony e-Reader / BlackBerry / Nintendo DS edition? (↑)

Subscribers to the print magazine can access a replica of the current issue on our website. Many articles from the current issue are also available to subscribers in HTML, and are fully compatible with e-reading apps like Readability, Instapaper, and Pocket.

We do not offer text-only e-reader editions at this time. You can purchase a downloadable tablet edition through the Zinio app, which you can get for iPad, Android, and Kindle Fire devices. Zinio subscriptions are sold by an outside vendor and do not come with access to the archive on Harpers.org.

We are working to diversify the number of formats in which the magazine is offered, and expect to launch a Harper’s app in 2013.

Zinio is a third-party vendor, separate from Harper’s Magazine. In order to access the archive, you must
subscribe to the print version of Harper’s.

How do I get copies of an image or story from the old Harper’s Weekly? (↑)

Harper’s Magazine does not have copies of Harper’s Weekly. We suggest trying harpweek.com.

Why did I receive spam from you? (↑)

Harper’s Magazine subscriptions are managed by a company called CDS Fulfillment, which operates buysub.com. Any email that asks you to visit buysub.com or w1.buysub.com originates from Harper’s.

If you received any other email asking for money that appears to originate from harpers.org, it used a spoofed “FROM” address. It is quite easy for any spammer to fake an originating address and, while we regret that digital mountebanks can abuse our domain name in this fashion, nothing can be done to stop them.

Examining the header of the mail file will make it clear that this email at no point passed through our servers. Harper’s Magazine has a strict policy for contacting our subscribers via email and follows it carefully.

What is your privacy policy? (↑)

Harper’s Magazine respects your privacy.

We don’t:

• store sensitive data in any cookie that comes from Harpers.org.

• store your password or credit card number. All password and credit-card information is managed by our friends at CDS Fulfillment, who have reliably, and for many years, handled millions of subscriptions for millions of people.

• sell your information to anyone just because you’re a web user, and we will never sell your email address without your permission.

• permit spidering of the password-restricted areas of our website.

We do:

• track the number of sessions you’re using at once, as well as the number of articles and pages you are downloading, in order to keep people from abusing our system or giving away their account information. This means that if you and all the other monks in the monastery want to read Harper’s online using one account, we’ll be forced to cut you off. We use information about what articles you’re reading in only two ways: to track abuse and to see what articles are popular on the website.

• use Google Analytics to track our web traffic, as well as advertising management software that remembers who you are between visits.

• sometimes sell portions of our postal mailing list to other magazines. We don’t do much of it, and we don’t let just anyone use our list. If you want to be removed, send an email to optout@harpers.org. Make sure to include your account number (it’s on your mailing label and starts with the letters PRS), the name under which you subscribed, and your full mailing address.

• send renewal offers and information. Our subscriptions are managed by a company called CDS Fulfillment, which operates buysub.com. Any email that asks you to visit buysub.com or w1.buysub.com originates from Harper’s Magazine.
