The IRE Resource Center is a major research library containing more than 25,000 investigative stories — both print and broadcast. Add to that more than 3,500 tipsheets from our national conferences, Better Watchdog Workshops, and on-the-road training on how to cover specific beats or do specific stories. IRE gives you resources that no reporter or editor should be without.
These stories and tipsheets are searchable through our online database or by contacting the Resource Center directly (573-882-3364 or rescntr@ire.org) where a researcher can help you pinpoint what you need.
When you've found the stories or tipsheets you're looking for, e-mail us or call us and we'll send you copies of the complete text. Stories, tapes and tipsheets are only available to IRE members. Journalists and journalism educators/students can join IRE online here.

IRE Awards
The IRE Awards, among the most prestigious in journalism, recognize outstanding investigative reporting across all media. All contest entries include a detailed questionnaire on the investigation, and together these create a unique and invaluable teaching resource for fellow journalists by providing insight into the successes and challenges of each investigation. The postmark deadline for the 2011 IRE Awards is Friday, January 13, 2012.

"The Investigative Reporter’s Handbook" is the best-selling classroom and newsroom classic. Useful as a textbook in advanced journalism courses and as a reference for professional journalists, this book shows students how to use fundamental news reporting and writing skills like gathering sources, tracking information, and interviewing to pursue investigative stories in a variety of beats — from the government and education to healthcare, the environment and real estate. In addition to discussing the latest techniques and challenges in the profession, the fifth edition is now thoroughly streamlined, making it easier to locate the resources that investigative reporters need to get the story.
Educator's Center
The IRE Educators' Center provides a meeting place for journalism educators to share ideas, course materials and resources. Through collaboration, instructors are able to offer stronger guidance for their students and to further their own research and growth.
New semester memberships provide IRE resources for students
Journalism educators, here's a great service from Investigative Reporters and Editors and the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting that your students can use in and out of the classroom this semester.
For a small fee ($25 each), your journalism students can sign up for a semester-long IRE membership and gain access to IRE's members-only Web content, which includes the IRE Resource Center's online index to more than 25,000 investigative reporting articles and 3,500 tipsheets crafted by professional journalists. It also provides access to online versions of past IRE Journals.
Students will be able to download many of the tipsheets online for free and sample NICAR's tutorials.
