Appreciating, learning about, and creating art are vital to Bryn Mawr's campus culture. In this lively, diverse community, the arts build bridges to the wider world, stimulating intellectual and social growth.
The vitality of the arts on campus is visible in the myriad concerts, plays, film series, exhibitions, and literary publications that thrive at many levels. It is evident in the way student artists cooperate to supervise studio space and sponsor workshops for the campus community. Performance opportunities for students range from informal open-mike nights and student-organized ensembles to senior projects enriched by the superb facilities and technical expertise of the Bryn Mawr and Haverford arts programs. Bryn Mawr and Haverford arts professors encourage their students to integrate their creative and intellectual lives.
Renowned performing artists representing a variety of disciplines and traditions draw enthuisiastic audiences from around the region to the College's Performing Arts Series each year, and many of the world's most distinguished authors have participated in Bryn Mawr's Creative Writing Program Reading Series. Artists from both series frequently offer master classes and workshops at the College, complementing the rich array of arts courses available at Bryn Mawr and Haverford. The academic arts programs are a prime example of Bi-College cooperation in which Bryn Mawr and Haverford combine their resources to offer students a full arts curriculum taught by highly regarded master artists. Bryn Mawr takes primary responsibility for creative writing, theater and dance, while Haverford hosts music and fine arts.
