Theremin Day – Do Touch (Afternoon Workshop)

Theremin Day is in two parts: an afternoon workshop in which you can build your very own Optical Theremin, followed by an evening of strictly hands-off* audio/visual delights.

*Hands-near is, of course, encouraged.

Demo: A little demo video of a prototype Optical Theremin in action

Cost: £20 to include an Optical Theremin Kit for you to make and keep (bring your own thing to house it in). There is also an option to pay £23 for a combined workshop ticket and special discounted entry to the evening event.

Suitable for: All skill levels. Complete beginners welcome – we’ll teach you how to solder etc. Mr.Underwood and the fizzPOP team will assist you in building your 3 oscillator Optical Theremin.

Payment is by paypal. If that poses anyone a problem, please email sam@mrunderwood.co.uk to arrange other payment methods.

Food: Feel free to bring your own food. We’ll also be making arrangements for a local café to take your order and deliver to The Edge if you prefer. Tea and biscuits will also be provided.

Further information: We have a limited number of soldering irons available so please do bring one if you can. We’re keen to accommodate children who want to get involved, please get in touch with us if you’d like to bring a young’ un to work with you, so we can make any extra arrangements necessary.

Location and contact information:

Theremin Day will held at The Edge (the Friction Arts studio space) at 79-81 Cheapside, Deritend, Birmingham, B12 0QH [google map]. The Edge is near the junction with Lombard Street at the back of a small yard set back off the road a bit, opposite the white hoardings for the construction site on the other side of the road. Look for the iron gates with an A4 fizzPOP sign on…

It’s about a 15 minute walk from the railways stations in the city centre and several bus routes have stops on the nearby Deritend road.

If you get lost, give us a call on the fizzPHONE: 07754 634993 and we’ll guide you in. (The phone will only be switched on just before the workshop.)
