MICA is a contemporary jewellery house which specializes in custom made pieces. Its name derives from a group of minerals that are characterized by their malleability which makes them ideal for various uses – some which are purely aesthetic. Expanding its most basic and primitive character, MICA’s identity is based on the amorphic nature of the rocks, the asymmetry of their profiles and their unique existence – no two rocks are alike – making all of MICA’s pieces truly unique. The interior spaces are based on an extensive grid system, strongly influenced by the work of Sol Lewitt, particularly his “Variations of Incomplete Open Cubes”. The displays, exclusively conceived and produced for MICA, offer an organic contrast against the more rigid backdrop of the space they are contained in.

Cities Like Open-Air Museums // Arne Quinze

When cities would be perceived as open-air museums people would start seeing art as a given, as a part of life and as having a positive influence on the quality of life and the general well-being. With every sculpture Arne Quinze builds he seeks confrontation with the viewer in the hope opening up their minds and making them dream again. Often he compares his installations with the effect of what we feel when seeing a great force of nature. Confrontation with unspoilt nature blows you away and leaves you completely dazed – yet in a positive way. In the city confrontation of this proportion is lacking: when looking at his sculptures the artist expects people suddenly feel small, realizing they’re only a minuscule element in the global sphere. People are amazed by the size of the installations, the grandeur takes control over them in contrast with smaller installations.

He unites both fields together in form of sculpture, light and sound installations creating a minimal, cold and technical atmosphere. It is a world in which even the largest conceivable amount of chaos is subject to order.

Housing various skin-care various skin-care and health products of Aesop, the space of the store is narrow and deep; the shot-gun organization is laid out asymmetrically with products framed in recycled boxes randomly stacked on one wall, the entire depth of the space. The opposing wall is clad in cork–pure, seamless and unfettered by any intricacy. Using the strict repetitive organization of the Aesop bottle – a leitmotif of the brand – the random stacking of boxes acts to downplay the regimented nature of the brand.
