“ With hundreds of live productions a month, we wanted a smaller, smarter, and more affordable professional switcher. Now it's available for any video pro who wants to create more dynamic and engaging live productions. ”
Broadcast Quality to Every Screen
Livestream Studio™ HD500 performs as a standalone broadcast-quality live video switcher when using one of its five live video outputs. The unit is ideal for a variety of applications, including in-venue broadcasting, live to tape production, network and local television programming with or without streaming live to the web.
The product is compliant with key SMPTE standards and boasts a 4:2:2 video signal from input to output. It is made to the same exacting standards required by broadcast television.
For producers who want to stream live video to the web and mobile devices, the built-in Livestream encoder is just a click away.
Truly Portable
Livestream Studio™ HD500 goes wherever work takes you – it fits into a case the size of a carry-on bag. From a built-in screen to built-in Blackmagic Decklink Quad and Studio cards, you get the features you need in one powerful, truly portable device. Simply open up Livestream Studio™ HD500, plug in your cameras, and you're ready to go.
*Screen protector and Tom Bihn carry case are included.

-
How is the Livestream Studio™ HD500 different from Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere?
Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere are editing software. This means that they can help you edit a video clip (a file) from video footage recorded on cameras, but do not allow you to produce a live video feed from live video sources. For that, you need a live video switcher instead of editing software.
-
What does “Multiview” mean?
In order to produce a live multi-camera show, a producer needs to be able to view all the camera inputs in real-time and without delay in order to “cut” the show live. In large television control rooms, this is done by stacking many television monitors in front of the producer, thereby creating a big video wall of all the inputs and outputs for the producer to view. A multiview is a more modern approach which combines all the live video inputs and outputs on a single screen.
-
What else is needed to stream live using the Livestream Studio™ HD500?
- SDI camera(s) or SDI video source(s)
- Internet Connection via wired broadband to connect to the Ethernet port of the Livestream Studio™ HD500
- Power
- New Livestream Producer Account (new.livestream.com/broadcast-live/new-livestream-pricing-plans) and/or an external live video encoder to send the video output to other live streaming service provider or content delivery networks (CDN)
-
Can you recommend SDI cameras & other production equipment?
Our Livestream production department created these B&H lists to make it easier for new producers. You can also search the B&H website for other models: store.livestream.com/collections/recommended-production-equipment
-
How do I stream to other live streaming CDNs and service vendors?
The Livestream Studio™ HD500 is open. You can of course stream in one-click to the Livestream service, but if you want to stream to other platforms such as Youtube Live, Ustream or to a content delivery network such as Akamai or Limelight, you can do that too. Simply connect any of the Studio HD500 live video outputs (HD/SD SDI, HDMI, Component, S-VIDEO, Composite) to your favorite software encoder (via a video input device) or hardware encoder and you will be able to live to any platform, using the Livestream Studio™ HD500 for live switching and file recording.
-
What do you mean by All-In-One?
Traditional live video switcher hardware products offer live video switching without any additional capabilities. Most of these products will have limited or no built in capabilities needed to produce a multi-camera live stream:
- Built in screen to view a preview of all the video inputs and outputs (Multiview) - therefore removing the need for external monitors.
- Built in audio mixer - no need to purchase an additional audio mixing hardware.
- Built in live streaming encoder - removes the need for additional encoding hardware.
- Built in graphics and titling functionality - allows you to create graphics without the aid of an external graphic generator.
- Built in recorder - no external tape or disk-based video recorder needed.
- Build in DDR - no external tape or disk-based video play needed.
The Livestream Studio™ HD500 combines one portable, hardware live video switching product with everything listed above making it a “Truly portable, All-In-One live production Switcher.”
-
What do you mean by truly portable?
With the Livestream Studio™ HD500, everything needed is included and fits into the provided carry-on bag: the computer, the screen, the keyboard & mouse and the video input/output cards and connectors.
Competing All-In-One products require you to transport a separate computer monitor, do not include a bag or a case, and have form factors which are so large, they have to be boxed in expensive flight cases and checked in at great expense when flying.
Other video switchers which are not All-In-One can be very compact but will require you to transport so many other pieces of equipment, (such as monitors, ddr, graphics generator, recorder, audio mixer) they lack the portability necessary for producing live shows around the U.S. or internationally.
-
How does the Livestream Studio™ HD500 compare to the NewTek TriCaster 40?
- The NewTek TriCaster 40 is not All-In-One
- The NewTek TriCaster 40 only supports analog video inputs and outputs - it does not support SDI or HDMI
- The NewTek TriCaster is not truly portable - you will need to purchase a case/bag and transport a computer monitor with an additional case/bag
-
How does the Livestream Studio™ HD500 compare to the NewTek TriCaster 455?
- The NewTek TriCaster 455 is All-In-One - except for the screen which is not built in or included
- The NewTek TriCaster 455 supports HD/SD SDI - 4 inputs vs 5 inputs on the Livestream Studio™ HD500
- The NewTek TriCaster 455 is not truly portable - it is a large product in both form and weight and does not include a built-in screen
- The NewTek TriCaster 455 price is more than double the Livestream Studio™ HD500
-
How does the Livestream Studio™ HD500 compare to the BlackMagic Design Television Studio, ATEM 1 M/E & ATEM 2 M/E?
The Blackmagic Design ATEM switchers are a great value but not All-In-One. They provide graphics and audio mixing but recording, DDR and streaming require the purchase, transport and configuration of external equipment. An additional computer or ATEM Control Surface is also required for control and an external monitor is also required to view the multiview.
-
How does the Livestream Studio™ HD500 compare to Telestream Wirecast, Ustream Producer & Wirecast for Youtube?
- Telestream Wirecast (and its repackaged/rebranded variants, “Ustream Producer” and “Wirecast for Youtube”) are software products - they require the producer to purchase and configure computer and video input/output device hardware.
- Telestream Wirecast doesn’t support output or recording to broadcast quality standards :
- No full field rate Multiview is included - a “Camera Preview” function however exists in a separate window but drops frames/fields
- No SDI live video output to external in-venue monitors, broadcast networks, or external video encoders
- No frame accurate and field accurate video recording with support for 1080i
- Livestream will in the future be releasing a software-only version of the Livestream Studio for Mac and PC, designed for the needs of producers who would prefer to work with their own hardware configurations. The software version will uphold the same broadcast quality standards as the hardware version.
