WGBH has been pioneering and delivering accessible media to disabled people for more than 30 years.
36 million Americans who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or visually impaired rely on media access services provided by WGBH.
We invented captioning and video descriptions for television, and today we apply those services to movies, the Web, museums, theme parks, and more. Our Carl & Ruth Shapiro Family National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) is working on new media access breakthroughs that build on WGBH's history. Learn more >

American Experience's Freedom Riders inspires local students and teachers

Design Squad inspires young engineer
Smith College senior and Design Squad Season Three alum Lindsey Nguyen was selected as the sole graduating senior to address students and alumnae at Smith's recent Ivy Day ceremony.
Lindsey cited her Design Squad experience as she spoke about the importance of teamwork and her role in encouraging future students to consider engineering. "I am grateful for the opportunity to define myself as an engineer, an athlete, a leader, and, most importantly, as a Smithie," she said. Watch Lindsey's speech.
Nova ScienceNow hosts Cafe Sci in Cambridge
Café Sci, hosted by WGBH science production Nova ScienceNow, explores a different scientific topic each month in our local neighborhoods. These fun, low-key, no-jargon gatherings bring guest speakers to cafés, pizza places, and coffee shops – free and open to all. Find out about the next Café Sci. Peep's World opens at Children's Museum
Peep and the Big Wide World has been transformed into a new permanent exhibit called "Peep's World" at the Boston Children's Museum. Thanks to support from the National Science Foundation, "Peep's World" offers children and their parents hands-on components and text and graphics that make science fun and accessible for children ages 3-5.
WGBH hosts Newton Mothers' Forum
The Newton Mothers' Forum (NMF) hosted its annual Members & Friends Auction in WGBH's Yawkey Atrium, raising more than $9,000. The majority of the proceeds — derived from business-donated auction items — was donated in support of the award-winning children's programs at WGBH, this year's NMF charity partner. Brigid Sullivan, VP for Children's, Educational, & Interactive Programming, addressed the crowd of approximately 100 mothers.
