FINAL UPDATE: Thanks so much everyone! You can still get the DVD, Blu-ray and USB Bracelet at the No Media Kings store. If you want something else just email us at info@ghostswithshitjobs.com!

UPDATE: USB Bracelet Reward!

Pre-loaded with Ghosts With Shit Jobs in full 1080p resolution with no DRM aftertaste. After you watch the movie, you can use it as a digital security bracelet -- when the Cloud is repossessed in 2025 (see trailer above) you'll have a local back-up of 8 gigabytes of your most precious data on your body at all times. Alternate "Locally Owned Data" text for un-profane environments. And it's not just a geek chic sales technique.

We've completed our movie and we're selling advance copies to fund a multi-city screening tour.

The video above will elaborate, and also contains our delicious trailer.

In the future, jobs still suck -- but in whole new ways.

By 2040, the economy has flipped and North Americans are a cheap labour pool for wealthy Asian markets. A Chinese documentary show focuses on the "ghosts" (Cantonese slang for white people) unlucky enough to have been born into the slums of Toronto in a special report that translates as "Ghosts With Shit Jobs."

It's lo-fi sci-fi.

We've seen too many blockbusters where the writing is in service to the spectacle, and we'd like to invert that equation. B movies are fine, but we like to try a little harder: B+, maybe. We still like to keep the fun in and the pretension out. We squeeze the most we can out of the new wave of cheap and accessible production and distribution technology, and in this case our total budget to date is still under $5000.

That's impossible, you say?

That's what we do. We brought an all-volunteer group of highly talented people together, and created an alternate universe where everyone who contributed to a film was treated with respect, an egalitarian profit-sharing contingency was established, and the writer was in charge.

Consensus realities are powerful.

Pledging now will not only get you the movie very soon, but help us get it out into the world in a bigger way. It's off to a great start with its world premiere at Sci-Fi-London in the UK, followed by screenings in Berlin, Germany and Toronto, Canada.

We'd like this to be just the beginning. Of course, the media attention and buzz that screenings generate will be great, but that's only one of our motives.

We view screenings as a creative opportunity.

We don't have any solutions to the economic crisis, but we know from the response so far that the movie's premise does provoke discussion and bears further exploration. We'd like to collaborate with local communities to do something extra for the event: it might be having trailers by local filmmakers before the movie, post-screening panels on the Future of Cultural Work, or booths out in the lobby where you can have a fake job interview. One of us would be there in person with the intent to engage beyond the obligatory Q&A.

The shortlist for the tour, chosen by the backers after we reached our original goal in 3 days, is in order of priority: New York City (9), Austin (7), Seattle (5), Los Angeles (5), Ann Arbor (4), Boston (4), Chicago (3),  Vancouver (2), Nanaimo (1), Calgary (1), Minneapolis (1), & Montreal (1). We are prioritizing the cities with the most backers, so make sure you set your Location in your Kickstarter settings to make your pledge count as a vote for your town. If your city is chosen each backer ($10 or more) gets a free ticket to the screening! (Excluding Toronto, which gets a different deal.)

Still not sure if it's for you?

Check out the first 20 minutes of the movie for free. Then you'll know.
