There are a variety of student media outlets where Journalism and Media Management majors can practice their craft.

DISTRACTION – A lifestyle, entertainment and fashion magazine focusing on student culture at the University of Miami. Students write and edit stories, take photos and design layout for the magazine, which also has an online edition, distractionmagazine.com.

THE MIAMI HURRICANE – An Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame Newspaper, The Miami Hurricane is the University of Miami’s campus newspaper produced by students that includes news, sports, opinion and entertainment sections. The Hurricane is published twice a week and is also available online at themiamihurricane.com.

UMTV - The University of Miami’s Emmy Award-winning, student-run cable TV station. Guided by SoC faculty, UMTV produces weekly newscasts and a variety of programming, including a live newscast, a weekly sports show, a late night comedy show, and a Spanish-language news program. In addition to airing in the Coral Gables area, shows are also streamed live and archived online at umtv.miami.edu.

WVUM 90.5 FM – An Award-winning, student-run radio station broadcasting from the University of Miami throughout South Florida and streaming worldwide on wvum.org, WVUM plays a variety of music, including alternative, world, hip hop, techno and more. The station also produces news and information programming, including sports broadcasts and a political affairs show. Students participate as DJ’s, newscasters, station managers, ad sales reps, and more.

The School’s facilities feature high-definition tapeless cameras, a wide-range of audio, video, and computer imaging tools, two television studios, a film soundstage, post-production and uplink facilities. These resources put the School of Communication on par with contemporary broadcast stations, networks and production companies.

Faculty members are a combination of published scholars and award-winning professionals who have excelled in the field.
