AdaCamp Melbourne attendees

AdaCamp is a Ada Initiative event focused on increasing womenโ€™s participation in open technology and culture. AdaCamp brings together people to build community, discuss issues women have in common across open technology and culture fields, and find ways to address them. Open technology and culture includes open source software, Wikipedia and other wiki projects, open data, open government, fan/remix culture, open libraries, and more. Attendance is by invitation and attendees are selected from qualified applicants through an open invitation process. Attendance is open to people of all genders. The first AdaCamp was AdaCamp Melbourne, in January 2012.

AdaCamp DC is a 100 person unconference in Washington, D.C. on July 10-11, 2012. It is co-located with Wikimania 2012, the global conference for Wikipedia and related Wiki projects. Wikimania brings influential and talented people from around the world who are interested in improving the participation of women in Wikipedia and other open data projects as well as open source software, open government, maker culture, and fan culture. People who plan to attend AdaCamp DC include Mary Gardiner, co-founder of the Ada Initiative and keynote speaker for Wikimania 2012, Sarah Stierch, Wikimedia Community Fellow and advocate for women in Wikipedia, and Joseph Reagle, author of Good Faith Collaboration: The Culture of Wikipedia.
