MeeGo Touch Input Method Frameworks

Session Summary:
The session is divided into two parts: An introductory presentation of MeeGo Touch Input Method Frameworks and a demo on extending the framework. The framework is used in MeeGo Handheld UX, providing text input feature.
Session Abstract:

The first session is a presentation which will go through the frameworks involved:

* Input Method UI framework
* Input Method engine framework
* Customization in MeeGo Keyboard

The presentation explains on how they are used in the platform and what are the implementation possibilities.
This presentation is targeted for vendors who sell custom text input and open source community to gain more input language coverage support.

The second session is about demonstrating extension possibilities. The out-of-the box behavior of the frameworks is designed to be both versatile and good-looking to match the overall look-and-feel of the system, but it's also possible for the application developer to extend the keyboard behavior to better match the needs of a specific application or to allow for user customization (e.g. add-on themes for the device). The two main ways of modifying the keyboard behavior are modifying the built-in keyboard's layout and style with XML+CSS, and providing an own keyboard plugin to replace the built-in one. In this session both of these methods are demonstrated.
