LCD rear projection TVs offer a great picture at a price that is much lower than plasma and LCD flat panel televisions. LCD rear projection TVs will range in size from 37 inches all the way up to 80 inches. LCD projection TVs are great for people who want a high definition TV for watching sports and playing video games. Since there are no burn-in issues with these sets, playing your favorite video games, or leaving it on ESPN all day long is not an issue.
Unlike DLP TVs that can only display one color on the screen at any given time, LCD projection TVs can display all three colors at one time. The result is no rainbow effect.
LCD TVs, like DLP, use a lamp as the primary light source. This allows the user to replace the lamp once the old one goes bad. Once the new lamp is in, the LCD rear projection TV will be as bright as it was the day it was purchased. A new lamp will cost between two and three hundred dollars.

What to Look for in an LCD Rear Projection TVLCD rear projection TVs offer a bright, vivid picture at a very reasonable cost. Unlike DLP rear projection TVs, where the DLP display chips are all made by Texas Instruments, LCD rear projection TVs can vary widely from one model to the next. Some sets will use a single LCD display panel while others will use three, one for each primary color.
Below are the criteria TopTenREVIEWS used to evaluate LCD rear projection TVs:
Connections: You need a TV with plenty of hookups for DVD players, VCRs, camcorders, video game consoles, cable boxes, etc. Having inputs on the front of the set is a big help as well.
Resolution: The picture quality of your TV is largely determined by the resolution of the set.
Digital Tuner: If you haven’t heard, you need to have a digital tuner after February 2009. Most TVs have one built in now, but not all.
Contrast Ratio: TVs that have a good picture will always have a good contrast ratio. While contrast ratio measures the difference between black and white colors, it also makes all the other colors appear more vibrant.
Brightness: Obviously you want a TV that is bright, and is easy to see even in bright room conditions.
PC Interface: Have you ever wanted to use your TV as a computer monitor? Make sure it has a PC interface and you can.
