Homemade Snowballs and A Christmas Lantern

November 11, 2012

spacer

Today I am sharing with you a quick tutorial for making homemade snowball bowl & vase fillers. As you can see I used them in a Christmas lantern. Or you can hang them from your tree or garland too!

spacer

Here are the supplies I used.

Old Christmas Ornaments {I removed the hangers since they were not going on the tree}

Mod Podge

Epsom Salts

Crafting Paint Brush

Cardboard/Paper surface to pour Epsom salts onto

spacer

I also found some grapevine balls and pine cones in my crafting supplies and covered these in Epsom salts too!

The process is pretty simple. Paint your old ornaments with Mod Podge and then roll in the Epsom salts & let dry.

spacer

The ornaments really look like snowballs and the grapevine balls & pine cones look as if they are covered in ice!

spacer

I placed these in front of the wood stove and they dried so fast!

Then I mixed them with extra grapevine balls, pine cones and berries from the dollar store.

spacer

I tied a simple holiday ribbon to the handle of the lantern and the look was complete!

Now I have a Christmas Lantern.

These looks great! I bought some snowy items last year and would like to add more to eat this year. Your tip may be just what I need. Thanks!

I have been wanting to try this method. Your snowballs look fantastic in your lantern. Love the icy look of the pine cones too. I also made some faux snowballs but used different materials.

This looks a little more natural than glitter so I think I’d better give it a try. I start on Christmas projects this week!
